3M security tint

Hey guys, I’ve been lurking this forum like I do most and got a quick question:
Many homes (including mine) I have chosen the 3M security film as a defense to burglaries (of those who target glass window entries) which is very hard to break into. I understand if your car were to become submerged I would not want my windshield to have it as I already have that hammer that breaks windshields and seat belts.

My question is why have not more people chosen this form of security to prevent car break-ins? Maybe I am missing or overlooking something simple?

That guy really needs a bigger hammer.

I don’t know but I have a feeling breaking a windshield, especially from within the car, is a lot tougher than breaking a side window (should you be under water, etc.)

Thats the point. Hardly anyone breaks in through the windshield. Most break ins are designed to be quick “smash and grabs” through the side windows. Am I overlooking something or is the whole car industry overlooking something?

I dont know if he is doing it on purpose but he is hitting the wrong spot. Hit one of the four corners, it will easily seperate from the frame.

Imola - WHat Axel was saying is it is potentially more dangerous to have to push a windshield out when submerged under water due to it’s size compared to other windows.

BTW - should you ever be in a submerged vehicle, you want to roll your windows down while you still have a chance. It lessens the pressure between the inside and outside once the car fills up with water. Then you want to open a door to escape.

I don’t know about the tint, maybe for a store front but not a home. I know the vid with the dude and the axe is a little dramatic but imagine firemen having this much trouble trying to break in and rescue a disabled or unconscious person - that would suck.

I was going to suggest that there’s already a tint thread but this is a whole new ballgame lol

let’s be honest here too (besides the safety issue axel mentioned which is probably very valid). If a theif really was trying to break into your car to steal your 2005 model garmin nav unit, would you rather just a window be smashed out and he call it a day, or him start to go at 1 window, then 2 windows, then a couple hits at the door(s), and then finally give up.

A smash & grab theif would probably hit at minimum 2 windows and a body shot or two after frustration from something like that product if it was on a car. I’d rather have one window knocked out then thousands in windows and body work needing to be done for whatever replaceable items are in my car.

The danger of having this on your car seems like it would outweigh the benefit. What if you were in a bad accident and trapped inside your car? This could make it even tougher to remove you or your passengers when a few seconds could make the difference between life and death.

If you have this and someone tries to break into your car, your still going to need your window replaced. All your preventing is them getting any personal items from inside the car. Just doesn’t seem worth it in my opinion. This type of stuff is what comprehensive coverage is for.

Eh. That’s what insurance is for

I think I worded that wrong lol. What I mean is, I would not put it on my windshield for that reason, just on the 4 windows and maybe the rear windshield too. I bring this up because recently there have been a lot of smash and grabs in my neighborhood, including high end cars being stolen. I figured something like this would be a better solution than deal with insurance headaches and all their bs

I would get a house with a garage. In a new neighbourhood.

Well not even that, what happens if broken into while say at the mall or at work? Or if I left something of sentimental value in there? I dunno, seems pretty beneficial, can’t see how it would hurt
