A little maintenance

I just hit 70k on my baby and it’s due for an oil change. Instead of just doing an oil change I’ve decided to do a little maintenance and a couple small upgrades. My shop is pretty slow this time of year with no snow and no tourists yet, so it’s a good time to mess around with the car while on the clock. Being in a family business does have its benefits  My car has run great since the day I got it and I want to keep it that way for a long time to come. Here’s a list of everything that I’m doing. Let me know if there is anything else I should do while I’m in here.

Valve cover gaskets
JHM LW front rotors
Akebono brake pads
Stern motor mounts
Complete engine detail
Oil change
Fluid change
Front bumper repair/repaint (road rash)
Rear bumper repair/repaint (old lady with a shopping cart… she looked exactly like that slutty grandma from the movie Beerfest)
18" Enkei PF01’s with Conti DW’s (41lbs per corner)
Clear corner headlights

I got kinda bored and started this project before I got all my parts in. Still waiting on motor mounts and rotors from JHM. Hopefully I’ll get the parts in and I’ll have everything done by the weekend. Not holding my breath though because I don’t think JHM has shipped them yet. Also I’m not %100 about doing the headlights. I don’t want to break anything or have condensation in them. Anyone have any advice on this?

tell us about the

tune?
downpipes?
catback exhaust?

Cool project list. Those wheels will be about 9 lbs per corner lighter than stockers. SHould be a great change in feel.

JHM tune, trexturk dp’s, Stasis exhaust open to full 2.5". Also have JHM LWCP and shifter. I might wait to do the rotors and wheels so I can take some logs before and after the weight savings.

yeah do it. I pulled out of the garage after lw fronts and was like ‘holy shit they actually work’

I thought it would be overrated/overhyped. Nope!

Nice, it’s a good feeling when you have fresh parts and fluids. Nice peace of mind. …or is it piece?

Peace of mind when you can rest easily.

Piece of mind as in “I’m gonna give that asshole a piece of my mind!”

I got a email back from JHM last night saying they just sold their last pair of rotors and it’s going to be 1-2 weeks before they get the next batch in from the machine shop. Bummer. On the bright side, this will temp me less from putting the new wheels on and I can do some logs with the boat anchor stockers. If anyone is interested those will be going up in the classifieds in the next week or so.

log groups 003, 020, 021 in turbo mode

you can then google docs it or something or post in image format so we can have a look at it.

What groups to log was actually my next question. Thanks saki. I had a little time yesterday to start in on the valve covers. Passenger side is done, everything went smoothly. However I noticed quite a bit of yellowish/white sludge in the lines coming off the back of the valve covers. What is this?

water vapor mixed with oil

I cleaned all of the hoses of my vacuum system with some seafoam. plug one end and fill up the hose. Mine was caked with sludge(brown)

As far as maintenance have you considered: serp belt & tensioner and snub mount? Everything is off the car so now would be a great time if either is due or close to needing replacement.

I got everything back together on Friday after doing some cleaning under the hood. I kinda rushed through it because I needed the car that night but it came out pretty nice. I decided against doing the clear corners. Really didn’t want to risk damaging $1000 headlights. I’m itching to put my new wheels on but the LW rotors and motor mounts will be in tomorrow or Wednesday. I also have a fuel filter to go in. Once EVERYTHING is done she’s going to get a full detail and proper photo shoot down at the beach.

I just did the belt, tensioner, apikol snub and crank pulley not too long ago. Belt looked good and tensioner was free and quiet.

looks great. LW rotors FTW for sure. JHM did a great job on them. Im still loving them

I finally got my LW rotors and motor mounts in today from JHM. I only had time today to install the rotors, pads and new wheels. Motor mounts will be later this week. Yesterday I ran a log on a 3rd gear pull with my winter set of wheels and original rotors. After work today I ran another log with the new LW components. I have no experience with reading the data so hopefully you guys can help me out. My butt dyno definitely feels a slight improvement. I did the pulls on the same stretch of highway going the same direction and the weather has been very similar the last couple days. Density altitude for yesterday was -903 and today -1313. Here’s the link to the log.
