Even if you drop the engine mount and bracket?
Man that sucks.

Got the front off. Now just have to get to those rear compressor bolts… I think a mount has to come out.
Yea, the powersteering pump and coolant pump make it near impossible from my experience to get it out from the back…just not enough room.
thx for the info. Do people usually use a hoist or something to support the motor?
Sounds like it is about the same to replace the AC compressor on a RS4 as the B6/7 S4s.
On a B6/7 S4 the compressor has to be rotated and rocked as it is pulled out of the normal space that it is in because of the stupid tabs that get in the way.

Yep. The mount and brackets (upper and lower) have to come off to get to the shaft that drives the compressor. Such a PITA!

Engine support bar like this:
A floor jack with a block of wood could be used too but that is kind of sketchy.
I have an engine hoist I can use.

They are sometimes a HUGE pain in the ass. I spent 3 damn days removing exhaust studs when I changed out my clutch. It took me more time to remove those fucking things than it did to remove and replace the clutch and tranny!
Can you hammer a torx socket in there? I’ve done that before and had success.

Ever get it out, I remember on my S4 having the same problem. Took some time, wiggling and cursing but it does come out.

My “what’s this sound” thread: http://audirevolution.net/forum/index.php?topic=3216.0
Oh man I thought I mentioned somewhere that it was the compressor that might have been a different thread.
I would say with almost complete certainty it wasn’t the can refill. It’s good to over oil the system on these compressors. Our compressors the S5 S6 and rs4 compressors fail if they get a leak of any kind or they just start to consume refrigerate and fall apart due to the in ballance
It’s good to see you fixed it. Pictures are always fun oh well

Plus, replaced orifice tube. Just wanted to mention - if you’re having ac trouble and the system is already empty, it’s easy to pull the orifice tube. Mine had obvious debris in it.
Great tip. With the ac it just sucks cause that’s about the only easy thing to do. How bad was the collection
