Anyone get their HDTV OTA?

I got a proper antenna on my roof. It was $500 all in, installed. It’s about 3 feet by 18 inches, x2 because I need a dual antenna to catch Toronto based a stations and NY based stations. I now have about 25 channels excluding the ones I deleted. 29 if you include those. Perfect quality.

It’s great. We don’t watch loads of TV so it’s business as usual although I do enjoy getting the US networks and seeing other hockey games on nbc and golf on the weekends on cbs/nbc

^So just curious, do you just have this feeding one TV? Or do you not have cable at all so you have it spliced in as your main feed into the house? Never done this, but often thought of it. I’ve considered cutting the cord often, but not having sports or local HD channels makes it a tough move to make.

F1 is on NBC. Watched Monte Carlo on NBC this weekend.

You can have it feed 10 TVs if you want. Mine is setup to feed 5 as the previous owner of the house had cable fed to the living room + 4 bedrooms. However we don’t have TVs in any of the bedrooms so we’re just using it on the main telly.

^Yes, but if you have it feeding the TV’s then you need to run additional dedicated lines to those tv’s IF you still use cable from your provider. I’m assuming IF you DON’T have a cable provider, you can hook up your main house feed to the antenna and then have it feed all the rooms that way.

Also, just curious, anyone have any experience with an antenna cable feed that then puts the signal out as an HDMI feed? Just thinking of our movie room. If i don’t have a cable box, and I obviously can’t screw the antenna cable into the projector or receiver, is there another way to do it?

I’ve been off cable for 3-4 months and don’t miss a thing. Saki and I live relatively close to each other and I use the same dual bay antenna for OTA. I’m splitting my signal to a few TVs around my house…I distribute using a 7db/channel amp. All (non-active) splitters result in signal loss…typically 3db.

^ They have all kinds of separate OTA receivers with HDMI output…some also have PVR functionality.

Also, I’ve been using Unotelly for access to US Netflix as well as to get around local blackouts on NHL GCL…works great.

That’s like saying ‘Do you have a diesel? Ahh, so you are going to need some more fuel lines if you want to run a concurrent gasoline engine on your car’

Why would you be paying for cable when you have an OTA antenna? Conversely, why bother with an OTA antenna when you already have cable? Makes no sense.

I haven’t read this whole thread, but what types of channels are available via antenna other than your standard fare network-based television? I’d say most of what I watch is on cable (TNT, Fox News, AMC, HBO, Science, etc., etc.), and I’ve always assumed there’s no way to access that material other than cable/satellite - excluding services like Hulu.
