Anyone here into Mtn Biking

Nice bike, Happy

And thanks for the kind words regarding my injury.

Thanks! Its helps having a best bud that gets tired of his “old” stuff quick. Would never have paid what that cost new. He’s always building up then ready for the next project. Hand me down ftw. Hoping to get his latest, belt driven Spot 29er with full enve cockpit. The smoothest bike I’ve ever been on.

That is definitely a good position to be in for you

Bike building is just like modding a project car, as soon as you are getting close to the end of the build, you start itching to start another one. It is definitely a lot of fun, and addictive.

Those guys are great. There was one in my old office. Sold a $2000 mountain bike for 300. He probably ride it 12 times

He also sold one of those water jugs…like at an office watercooler…for $20 to his assistant. No big deal right? Well… It was FULL of change. Full. Must have weighed 75-80 lbs. We have $1 and $2 coins up here and there we’re plenty of them. I can’t remember what it was worth rolled up but it was well over $1000

I used to be fairly into in but then I got a car and lost interest. Still have my bike, which is nothing too fancy. It’s an '07 Trek 6700.

I live in the suburbs too so there isn’t really much here besides whatever you can find at a forest preserve and the prairie paths

I’ve been mountain biking for 20+ years but never really enjoyed winter snow riding.

I’ve used a custom spec’d AMP B4 with some B5 carbon upgrades for many years but recently bought a Rocky Mountain Vertex carbon 29er hardtail and absolutely love it. It’s amazing how comfortable and compliant the Rocky carbon HT frames are. I’ve owned 6 or 7 high-end Rocky’s over the years and this one is by far the best. For cross country, I no longer see a reason for full suspension.

I remember when the AMP frame and forks came out. They were revolutionary at the time for the horst link. Specialized now owns the patent on that, and licenses it out to a bunch of other companies on top of using it across their entire line of full-suspension bikes.

Funny thing is I remember the linkage fork more than the frame. I had a proflex 855 with a cool linkage fork too, but you dont see too many linkage forks around these days.

Agreed, I was so surprised the first time I took my carbon frame HT out to find how compliant yet stable it was. And, it transfers the pedal power so well at the same time.

BTW, with the fatbikes, see if you can try one before you buy. I had a blast on mine, but it may not be for everyone. Don’t expect to go very fast

Pretty epic mtn bike ride today. ~30 miles down hill / cross country. 50/50 jeep trail and single track

Beautiful pictures Happy, reminds of the terrain we have here in Chico.

Ya great pictures. That’s pretty awesome scenery for a bike ride.

Thanks guys. It was a damn good time. And so pretty. I had a hard time concentrating on the trail at times. Picked up a GoPro last night. Gonna try it out here in a few. Much less grand scale but a cool scenery ride with canyon views…

First gopro trial run. Short clip from ride today. Nothing fancy but a fun trail system. Smooth for most part, some technical sections, some climbing, some decent. Good times

Looks like an amazing ride!

Too short a clip from yesterdays ride above. That Sedona ride was incredible. So much rubber necking when should be paying attention to trail. I am working on some others from today. So much great riding here in Flag! I’m enjoying the shit out of being back here.

Clip from todays ride. Side canyon, fairly technical section half way through. Couldnt make it over boulder at end/beginning of hill. Knee height or so probably. Fun jumping off it coming the other direction.
