B6/7 S4 vs. Stage 1 or 2 B5 S4: Videos

I started this therad on a few other forums seeking some information.

When I had a JHM tune/piggies/catback B7 S4, I raced a stage II B5 S4 once (GIACtune /AWE DP/AWE CB) and I beat him pretty soundly (race #6 below). This surprised lots of the guys at the meet we were at. They were all convinced I was going to get crushed. Why?

Well, for starters because B5 S4 trolls would constantly say that any tuned or stage II B5 would crush any B6/7. I think the birth of this myth was

a. Dan @ JHM going low 12s in his K03 B5 S4. All Stage 1 and 2 B5 guys clung toi this result as defining their K03 powered cars. This is what we can do! Actually no, you can’t. This is what you can do when you run race gas and turbo blade bending levels of boost. Dan killed his K03s real quick, and it was so violent, VAST made a video of it to show the destruction

b. Audiworld’s performance comparison of B5 vs B6. On the arrival of the B6 S4 on the scene, Audiworld did a ‘performance test’ to compare a stock B5, stage1 B5, stage 2 B5 and stock B6. The B6 lost just about everything. They cut a 0-60 mph time in like 6.3 seconds in the B6 lol. Everything made the B6 look horrible.

Then you read the fine print and realise…the guys who wrote the ‘article’ for the website were B5 S4 trolls who had shit-talked the B6 the minute it was announced. Clearly not a good represnetation of what the B6 could do. We saw Motor Trend run it to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds. Road and Track had it at 5.1 seconds. Same with Car and Driver. So clearly Audiworld guys were fucking around and wasting our time. Unfortunately lots of forumites read that article and the info stuck in their head.

So I asked on quattrofail B5, audizine B5, audizine B6, euroaddiciton B6…for videos of B6/7 S4s vs. B5 S4s on K03 turbos. Here’s what I found…(excuse the funky coding…this is brought from a different forum from 3 years ago)

You could but it would be 2 videos lol. Really the stage III B5 S4s should have the B6/7 car’s number. Of course there good running B5 that is going to beat a supercharged 4.2 is not a guarantee, but it’s also not really disputed that a good stage III B5 should have an edge.

However the thread I started elsewhere was key because people so frequently make that comment that stage 1 or 2 B5 > B6/7 no matter what bolt ons it has. It’s just not true.

I have literally never seen a video where the B5 wins. I asked on all the B5 forums too.

I had a bunch of runs against a well running b5 s4 w/ tune/catback/downpipes when my B6 S4 was running like dogshit (first 05 s4 tune jhm ever did, jul/2009, catless milltek dps, leaking 2.25" milltek nonres). we ran from maybe 10-80 over and over and I recall pulling ahead by a fender most of the time.

my b6 s4 in may 2010 would have anihilated that particular B5

Before I sold my B5, I had a friend drive her and me in my stock B6 Avant…stage 2 B5 S4 won but by about a full car length; we killed it at 100.

What caught me off guard was how the 4.2 kept going once it got past 28/2900 RPMs and leveled out at 6500 in gears 4th, 5th and 6th whereas my K03s (tuned by APR on catless techtonic DPs/Exhaust) died after 5500 RPMs in those same gears.

In my personal experience, the K03s peak power is between 2500 to right around 45/5000rpms or between 35-85/90mph on a passive APR tune.

I don’t have any graphs or logs or on-paper data to prove what I’m saying so take my experiences however you want it.

The big gain for the 4.2 is instant tq…well with the jhm tune…other 4.2 tunes not as powerful…still snapy just not as much…the 4.2 sill starts to loose its breath at 6200. Add headrrs and the jhm intake amd you can get up to 6800 without feeling the car fall on its face.

he started a thread on audizine and has been PMing RS4 owners trying to setup a race with an E85 stage 2 B5 S4 and an RS4/S4. Guess he doesn’t like this thread.

I don’t know why he doesn’t just have his E85 tuned friend run at the dragstrip. If he runs faster than 12.2 @ 112-114 he is likely faster than an RS4 with tune etc. And at the end of the day, nobody who owns an RS4 will care lol.

I actually LOL to that video of the comparison of 3 turbos… holy shit @ those fins!!

I think they no it won’t be a match in the quarter and their only chance will really be taking the rs4 at higher speeds from a roll.
