He did, but he didn’t do a before dyno there at 034. He dynod 360 whp or so on the old 034 land and sea dyno
Interesting information , I’m considering the JHM tune on my car, but I don’t want to do the piggies.
So, I was about to go the APR route, but this thread changed my mind.
Anyone knows if gains are made with the JHM tune with stock exhaust?
there will definitely be gains, but I would suggest you re-consider piggies
What is holding you back?
Sound? It’s not a huge bump…you’re leaving the main cats in tact, and they keep things reasonable, especially on stock catback which is very effective at keeping the sound in check with the resonators, mufflers and valves.
Emissions? If you move the o2 bungs to before/after the main cats (which are still there) you will be fine. The stock setup is before after the precat. You’re just using the rearward main cat instead for catalyst/emissions measurement
Smell? It’s really not a big change going from 2 cats per bank to 1 cat per bank. Catless creates a pretty intense racey smell (which is not that big of a deal) but piggies is barely different to an already rich running stock Rs4.
Performance on the other hand is a factor, as is engine health. While the precats are a bit further downstream thanks to the tri-y RS4 headers which reach down 2 feet (as opposed to a manifold which is bolted right up at the motor) they are still in a shitty location and bottle heat in. They also don’t flow as well as the main cats. So you end up with an engine that runs a bit hotter than you might like, and whose volumetric efficiency suffers. Piggies are great for picking up 10-20 tq and similar hp.
I’m not a fan of loud exhausts. Unless I’ve got a track car.
From what you’ve said the JHM tune will be my first choice.
My build will be slow, after I do a carbon clean with the intake spacers, the tune will be next followed by the piggies.
That being said, what will my “S” button do for me after the tune?
Thanks
after the tune, it will still control your exhaust flaps if you have your stock exhaust (I am making assumptions that you are fully aware of what it does now…don’t mean to. If you need to catch up, check the link below my post).
If JHM has 2 different throttle maps, the S button will also change throttle characteristics (as it does now).
You could always do piggies and if you don’t like them just swap them with another RS4 guy and probably make your tune money back.
I think saki is right though. The sound on the rs4 from full cats to piggies isn’t going to be that drastic. And to me it’s more about engine health and getting that heat away from the motor more than anything else.
The RS4 is quiet. Mine has 2.75" downpipes with HFcats and 2.75" JHM resonated catback, and my car makes a great noise, but is WORLDS quieter than my old B7 S4 was with a 2.5" catless downpipes and 2.5" JHM resonated catback. Huge difference.
Thanks for all the advice, going with the JHM tune , in a couple of days.
I’ll most likely do the piggies in another month.
Sorry for the thread jack…
