B8 S4/S5 track videos and pictures thread

I know boro saw this on AZ, but I thought it was worth posting. This dude tracked his completely stock RS4, and crashed it into a wall when his brakes completely failed. He seems very dismissive of the fact his brakes failed while running stock pads and fluid. It seems like you’d have to at least be aware of the possibility, and somehow account for that… Painful to see none the less.

I’m completely unsurprised that RS4 wagon wrecked. One does not simply track a stock Audi, particularly one that is 4500 pounds with driver+passenger+fuel load.

Scary stuff indeed Josh.
I still feel that it is a brake fluid and pad issue, as everyone else also mentioned in that AZ thread.
No idea why the driver was adamant he wasnt. I did mention brake pumping, but it didnt feel like he ever anticipated this/regularly does brake checks/even thought of brake pumping until i mentioned it twice–to which he said he did pump “a couple of times” when he noticed he had no brakes. Not saying he didn’t pump, but IMO, all signs point to he didn’t do it… and unfortunately, the accident looks to be a cause of driver induced error. The worst part is that if this is all true, he isn’t learning from this experience and is pinning the blame on the tool (the car) rather than what he could have done as a driver himself.

I hope I’m wrong on this. But it doesn’t look like there was an actual hardware failure here.

TL;DR, don’t drag the brakes folks!

Playing with a GT3 this morning, and managed a 1:43.53.

2nd session, with race data. I get past the field of cars including the new M4 like it was standing still, and manage four laps of 1:44.

West, is your car too lose?

You are braking quite early. 1:44 is fantastic no doubt. You can cut down even more time by working on those brake zones. I’m not sure if it’s a driver thing or a setup thing. I suspect that your car is already a little too loose as is, and prevents you from hitting the brakes as late and as hard as you should be. I bet if we had a G force reading, we’d see this. You’re getting most of your braking done in a straight line, and you are on the gas before the apex. Very HPDE, not the fastest way around a corner type style. Maybe that’s your style–nothing wrong with it–just know that you can shave even more time! Would be crazy to get down to 1:41. I bet the car has it in her.

For most corners, your speed is anywhere from 3 to 6mph slower than when your car is pointed to the apex. Suggests you either braked too hard, or too early. I suspect your car may be a little hairy on entry, and the whole idea of putting on even more rubber up front may not help things. Have you tried disconnecting the rear bar?
What tire pressures are you running? Something looks very off in your videos @_@

There is some crazy gators and curbing and elevation at Laguna. Sounds loud but it is normal. I agree the car has 1:40 in it. I think I can inch under 1:42 if I tweak a few things (and run with a faster group).

The car still dives a bit. No worse than a 911 turbo of the same weight.

Pobst only did it half a second fatser in an RS5.

Looks like I ran a lot of 1:45, with a best of 1:44.38. I’m starting to analyze my stuff in Racelogic Circuit Tools 2. I know where I lost 1.5 seconds.

The car looks great. Did the body mods help with the performance and over all time or with control. You can see the rear cut out section in the one picture.

What a great view

When it is a clear day, that top of the corkscrew photo of the rear of the car goes straight to the ocean.

Regarding functionality, I hit 123.12 MPH per GPS on the front straight so I’d say I’ve lowered drag.

You can see the fender liner cut away here:

Waiting for the people who say the dragstrip is harder on your car than the road course…

One day I will ride the Phillip Island Circuit. It looks like you’re going straight into the ocean…you reminded me of that

WOW at high speeds that would be a little scary.

Inde Motorsports Ranch in Tucson is the same way. Something like 24 turns, and most of them are pretty tight/slow corners.

Me driving my RS4 about a year ago there - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ufCLTtjrBBk

I still LOL when people say the 1/4 mile is harder on cars then the road course. That sucks and I dont think insurence will cover that
