I’m starting to think the idiots at steve’s european auto didn’t flash the test pipe file. Wow. And it took them 3 hours to do this (plus an hour of travel each way) because the TCU tune update “semi-bricked” and they had to move the car around on rollers. It didn’t even cross my mind that he wouldn’t flash the test pipe file…we were talking about the test pipes and where I had the work done. Wow…FML
Did you get the email from apr after they flashed the car? Should say in there what file it is. Also apr can verify via the vin what file the car has for sure that was flashed. Might be easier than trying to ask the shop.
Looks like I have test pipe software. Now trying to pin down wtf is going by calling APR. The call support guy told me to go back to the dealership, but I’m not wasting more of my time with that.
It did take them 3 hours to update a TCU tune. And gave me a receipt with the wrong info on it. And they didn’t clear any codes with VCDS. And quoted me 1500 to install test pipes. Quoted 75 to get a track inspection. And when I asked them to update my ECU tune for free while spending $1000 on the TCU tune, they told me " If you would rather save that $60 and spend at least 4.5 hours driving to and from Ohio and getting flashed then by all means, go for it. " The shop in ohio is the same distance from my house.
Looks like the problem was in APR’s software. Apparently the CEL from the dash was removed, but not the codes. Seems like a strange way to describe the solution. You’d think it wasn’t about changing the back end of the CEL’s and DTC’s, but rather changing the range of the secondary O2 reading.
It looks like this is an issue with the APR software. Check to see if the car runs readyness. Seems APR has lost all of there good inhouse tuners. They have this same type of issue on there supercharger kit for the Rs4.
Why bother if that’s the case? Seems pretty pointless. If I get to the point of running cats, I could deal with the CEL before not being able to pass emissions/OBDII scans. Are they planning on changing this at some point, or is this just the way it’s going to be? I inquired via their Tech Support email, but never got a response…
I guess the point for me is to at least be running without secondary o2 dtc’s. If I put my own cats in the downpipes, I’d like for there to be no issues if someone runs a scan. You wouldn’t believe what the first tech support guy started telling me to do with the tune dealer. Spark plugs, injectors, intake leak…pretty much all the dumb shit you’d see if you put the dtc code into answers.com
Also, a friend in engine controls told me that the secondary o2 sensor is used to remove bias error from the wideband. He said the secondary o2 can be a lot more accurate very close to stoich.
So I have to wonder if by throwing whatever efficiency codes, the ecm changes the strategy. I guess there’s no real way to verify, but I’ll sleep better at night if there are no codes lol
Keep us posted. I’m curious how it works out. I’ve been wholly unimpressed with the way most APR dealers handle issues/questions, and APR’s Tech Support (admittedly my standards are high since that’s what I did for 15 years). I am sure, like most things, they have some really good dealers and Tech Support people; I just don’t seem to end up talking to those people most of the time.
I am excited that my friends shop is now (or will be in the next few days) doing APR. He’s a good dude, and knows his shit. I took my car in for the fuel system recall today, so I’ll update to V3.1 or whatever when I get the car back next week.
My dealership is another place that scares the shit out of me when it comes to service. Everything just seems too hard… Of course, my normal service adviser was in a wreck this morning, so he wasn’t in. Trying to explain the basics to the lady helping me was though… The fuel system recall (she hadn’t heard of it), DSG service they didn’t do at my 35k service (do they ever?), please don’t wash my car, and explaining to them I was tuned shouldn’t be difficult for a service adviser to grasp. Oh well, rant over…
