Yeah true open pipes on a 4.2 is unbearably loud. We ran my old a6 with open headers for a few minutes and it was mind numbing
You have 3 parts to the exhaust system.
The exhaust manifolds. They bolt to the heads and they are not very big
The downpipes. They bolt to the exhaust manifolds and they are the section with the cats.
The catback. It’s called the car back because it goes after the cats back to the back of the car.
Headers replace both the exhaust manifold and the downpipes.
Best ever

Haha, same here (well on jack stands still) but it was mind boggling. I can’t imagine hearing open headers making a 1/4 pass like Justincredible did.
I did have the electronic exhaust dumps though for a while, and while not performance enhancing, the cocking around factor was pretty fun about them.
Yea, CV has some good experience supercharging the timing belt 4.2, but it required a hole in the hood lol. The good news is the TB series has a stronger block than the S4 so it was able to handle a bit more power per cyl than a S4 could. But adapting JHM’s Vortech blower to a timing belt 4.2 might be rather difficult.
Either way, headers, catback, tune would be a game changer. But headers are also a lot of work and not cheap. Start off with a good catback and catless down pipes with the tune and you’ll be well on your way with a noticeable power bump!
The S6 Boat is buying already has the JHM tune, Magnaflow catback, and catless downpipes (C5 S6 doesnt have precats), along with Magnaflow high flow cats. So, it is definitely quick already. JHM headers will make it awesome.
I know that Boat has plans to take it to the next level, and it sounds like the JHM headers are going to come first. The JHM NOS kit would also make things interesting, I would think.
Found this pic of one of CV’s 4.2 superchargers…

That is crazy! A powerbulge in the hood might be cool warning to other drivers that the S6 has something hiding under the hood and it might have a bit more ‘punch’ than your run-of-the-mill grocery getter
Regardless what the guy beside you notices on the wagon as you sit beside him at the stop light, I have a feeling there will be a lot of disappointed sports car owners after the light changes green.
Regarding a bodykit, the only one I would go with on this car is the RS6 OEM kit. The front bumper and sides are available in North America, but the Avant rear bumper has to be sourced from Europe/UK.

I actually had sourced an entire kit, that was waiting to be installed on the wagon. But, when I decided to sell the wagon, I put the kit up for sale and it went pretty quick.
If you go this route, I can probably help you import the parts from Europe.
Right on, thanks for the help guys.
I’m looking forward to getting some JHM headers done asap. And hopefully that is just the beginning.
As for the power bulge in the hood - I prefer the sleeper look as much as possible - but if we need a hole in the hood to get big supercharger power, then no big deal. I’m sure we can find a suitable “hood scoop” made of carbon fibre, to bolt on above the hole, and then body fill the edges and paint it all to look like one piece. I hope we could find a way for it to be understated and subtle.
And thanks for the idea on the body kit v8a6, but cosmetics are on hold until the S6 is done being built up for power. I’d prefer the “new” (to me) C5 S6 Avant to resemble this B6 A4 Avant that I already have. And speaking of which, that S6 picture you posted has the same rims as my A4! Those are my summer rims!
I went through my pictures on my phone today, and dug out some pictures of my A4 from stock appearance up until now. Maybe by Saturday I’ll have the pictures tagged “AudiRevolution”, and post them with a write up about the paint job, colors, effects, etc. I’ll post the pictures of my current 4x4 boat over in the B6 A4 section for the B6 owners. And I’ll post in this thread when I’ve posted the write up in the B6 section.
Cool! I have seen some pics of the A4 and it is definitely a sweet wagon.
Electronic exhaust dumps? From where?? Sounds like that would be fun when I get the headers done lol. Light it up once in a blue moon anyways.
Lucky day! I drove over 3300km (2050 miles), to get the car from v8a6’s place to mine. About 20km (12 miles) from my garage, the serpentine belt popped off! So lucky that it didn’t happen in the middle of no where during a white out.
I had a couple of photos to post, but for some reason I can’t upload photos. I replied in the “Can we increase the image size restrictions?” thread. I’ve also been tryin to post pictures of my Avant paint job in the B6 A4 section, but same problem…
That is so crazy!
CPR, Avant style:
V8 boat being loaded into ambulance:
Holy shit that is a long drive
Cool pics!
You have got to be one of the few people (maybe only person?) in North America who own TWO white Avants.
I guess the two photos I posted above are unable to be viewed on iPhone, so one again, here they are:

And Avant ambulance

And yeah I just might be the only guy in the world who owns two white Avants lol. Who knows. But yeah they’re kinda rare. I’ve been watching out for a V8 white Avant for quite a while. I love the B6 and C5 body styles.
Everyone around me thinks it’s amusing when I say “The four banger (A4 Avant) is demoted to beater status.”
Oh, and remember the RS6 body kit pictures from v8a6, and that I mentioned me having the rims in the RS6 picture? Here we are:

There’s more pictures of my B6 Avant posted over in the B6 A4 section. Additional details and pictures to follow in that B6 thread if anyone is interested.
New member here, just picked up a 2003 S6 Avant down here in LA. Rear bumper looks like it had a big popped out dent which immediately put me on a mission to find bumpers. Rs6 bumpers especially for the avant seem impossible to find here.
V8a6 you mind letting me know how much it was to source your oems from UK? Source still good?
Thanks!
Adam
Welcome adam
When you get a chance post up some pictures of your new ride. Any performance plans for the car. Your in LA so thats kinda close to JHM lots of performance fun there.
