The way to safeguard against faulty new injectors is to have them drop-shipped to the injector guy and tested for $10/injector. Well worth the cost imo.
Well well well worth the cost. It really makes no sense to not test them. There are so many inconsist reports even on new injectors. This is why I would strongly suggest against getting new injectors all together. Test what you have this way you know what was going on in the motor. If your just pulling out the old injectors to put in new ones and you dont test the old injectors you have no real idea on what was going on with the old injectors. Maybe they were all good maybe you had an issue on one cylinder. You wont know that if you dont test them
So here is an update on this finally.
Work done:
carbon clean
new injectors
fuel filter
oil change and air filter
All the codes were gone for about one hour. I scanned it when I got home, and the fuel rail code came back. I was hoping the intake service would possibly get rid of it, but I ended up eventually having the HPFP replaced on that side. That did the trick and no more codes. Car is smooth and running great.
The buildup wasn’t very bad either. There was about 80,000km (50,000 miles) since the last cleaning. Here are some pics:
