Well, guess I’ll update this to help someone in the future. Bought head gaskets etc for both sides from Audi… They have the wrong parts numbers in their system for 07. I got s4 head gaskets, set back number 1. They got me the right gasket and overnighted it to me for free. I opted to just do the passenger side, for anyone that has never pulled a head, the rear adjuster needs to get compressed or removed in order to get the adjusters off. The tensioner had to much pressure to compress so I removed it to get the head off with the intention of compressing it when it was off. That didn’t work, the piston went in about 75% and froze. Wouldn’t go in or out, set back number 2. Overpaid the local dealer to get me a new tensioner the next day. Got the HG, adjusters and tensioners installed, timing all set.

Rotated it a couple times to double check timing and the bank I just did was slightly off. Thankfully I had an extra set of bolts for the adjusters, redid it and same thing happened. After a little investigating I realized that the adjuster didn’t have the oil pressure build up it would typically have since it was new and therefore wasn’t keeping the chain as tight making timing appear to be off. Once it gets primed and some pressure built up everything should be perfect, great. New coolant o ring for the back cover to head pipe and put it back together to pressure test. Pressure it up, hear air still >:(, pissed and give up on it for the night. Started to think about it some, the air originally could be heard through both valve covers, I thought I could hear it on the passenger side more so I pulled that cover and could feel the air, thats the side I replaced. Now it sounds more like it is on the drivers side, did I pick the wrong side headgasket to replace? No the air was definitely coming out more slowly than but still coming out. Then it hit me, the oring on the rear timing cover coolant pipe I replaced on the passenger side looked like shit. It was all worn out and compressed. Might as well replace the drivers side since we are there right? Bingo, I think it was the fucking coolant pipe orings on both sides the whole time. The extremely cold weather and lack of being run for a few months must have caused them to shrink just enough to finally fail. Moral of the story, replace those orings FIRST and then re-pressure test. Car should have been running a couple weeks ago in reality. Oh well, lesson learned.
