So last week, I got my ECU back from JHM. During the shipment, the ECU got a little loose and 2 days later, my car stalled and wouldn’t start anymore so on the side of the road, I took out my ECU, opened it up and reseated the chip. All good. However, since I wasn’t sure whether it would hold, I didn’t put the plastic cover back on, just in case I was going to have to take it out again.
Fast forward a week and I’m on my way to the mechanic to get a bunch of work done, including swapping to my summer wheels. Since I don’t like having to store dirty wheels, I decided to go to the car wash right outside my mechanic. Yup, you guessed it. I totally forgot that the ECU cover was off. I remembered when my footwell started leaking.
Long story short, my footwell had a puddle, my ECU and all the relays were completely drenched. CEL came on, ESP light came on, EPC light came on. Argh! I drove it to the mechanic (around the corner) and we blew all the air our with a high powered air gun. Then the car’s fan came on and wouldn’t shut off. They had to take all the relays out and open them one by one and dry them off.
In the end, I was lucky though. No permanent damage and all is back to normal.
On a more negative note, we noticed my car was leaking a considerable amount of oil. Must have started happening recently. No idea where it’s from but the mechanic had a quick look and thinks he might have to take the whole supercharger out, etc. to access the area. It’s leaking all over the alternator and crap. Add on top of that the clutch work that will be needed (most likely a tranny pull) and this is going to cost me a pretty penny.
The positive stuff? Getting my new TT-RS steering installed along with my Zada-Tech gauges.
