Did something really freaking stupid today...

So last week, I got my ECU back from JHM. During the shipment, the ECU got a little loose and 2 days later, my car stalled and wouldn’t start anymore so on the side of the road, I took out my ECU, opened it up and reseated the chip. All good. However, since I wasn’t sure whether it would hold, I didn’t put the plastic cover back on, just in case I was going to have to take it out again.
Fast forward a week and I’m on my way to the mechanic to get a bunch of work done, including swapping to my summer wheels. Since I don’t like having to store dirty wheels, I decided to go to the car wash right outside my mechanic. Yup, you guessed it. I totally forgot that the ECU cover was off. I remembered when my footwell started leaking.

Long story short, my footwell had a puddle, my ECU and all the relays were completely drenched. CEL came on, ESP light came on, EPC light came on. Argh! I drove it to the mechanic (around the corner) and we blew all the air our with a high powered air gun. Then the car’s fan came on and wouldn’t shut off. They had to take all the relays out and open them one by one and dry them off.

In the end, I was lucky though. No permanent damage and all is back to normal.

On a more negative note, we noticed my car was leaking a considerable amount of oil. Must have started happening recently. No idea where it’s from but the mechanic had a quick look and thinks he might have to take the whole supercharger out, etc. to access the area. It’s leaking all over the alternator and crap. Add on top of that the clutch work that will be needed (most likely a tranny pull) and this is going to cost me a pretty penny.

The positive stuff? Getting my new TT-RS steering installed along with my Zada-Tech gauges.

Holy shit! That was lucky with the water. Off topic, but related, I was in one of the touchless PetroCan washes yesterday - the dozy twonk in front of me put his brakes on for some reason and the conveyor belt proceeded to launch me into a Dodge Ram. Luckily, it was into the licence plate and cover only. No other damage done. I need to find one of those fly by handwashes run by Albanians that I used to pay £20 and tip with ciggies!

Sorry to hear about the oil leak, I really do hope you catch a break with your car.

Damn man. You’ve got to catch a break soon. Hopefully the oil leak is something easy and you get your clutch issue resolved with no more hiccups.

i love those conveyer belt car washes bango. I had a 3 month pass for the winter. Great stuff. It’s a safe way to take the RS4 through a car wash without the wheels getting destroyed in those tracks in the normal washes.

Funny how that guy panicked and threw his brakes on. What a pillock. That ALbanian car wash sounds awesome lol.

I’ve got 2 weeks left on my pass. Each car gets washed every day lol. No truth of a lie those Albanian boys on the A28 between Canterbury and Sarre (Kent, UK), did the finest job inside and out I’ve seen on a car. Made it like new every time. Then I found out the local Audi dealership were sending their cars for prep there too!

Automatic car washes…sigh. 91 and I should come whoop both of your asses for taking such beautiful cars trough those things.

^agree. Car washes are torture.

We get at least 10 customers a year from things going wrong in automatic car washes. Although most of the time its driver stupidity. Last year we had a guy in a brand new Jetta wagon have the blower at the end fall off and drag down the entire roof. Came out to about a $4500 job.

Some people eat on their lunch breaks. I wash my car 8)

I’m considering moving closer to work soon and that is one of the pro’s on my pro’s and cons list :stuck_out_tongue:
