Domestic Bliss is........

Currently in the process of repairing the front bumper of my Senator after a small mishap…

Just finished spraying the bumper this weekend and waiting for colour sanding. Audi content … to the left under the car cover ;D ;D

I’ve had this car for almost 11 years and the car itself is 15 years old. It’s been well driven and is starting to show a little wear and tear so I do have plans for upgrades, TLC and modifications.

My brother has made mention in his build thread about trying to beat a friends HSV Ute. Well that ute (think elcamino) is the same age, shape at the front and engine as my car so when he finally gets his engine my car will be the test car it goes up against.

What’s a senator?

I’m guessing he’s an Aussie.

Yep … I’m an Aussie.

The Senator is HSV (Holden Special Vehicles) luxury performance car based on the commodore line (in this case the top of the line Calais). Size wise it’s the same as a C6 A6. The extra fruit from HSV is the 185kw V8 (more than the stock V8 from Holden at the time), exhaust, sports suspension, LSD, bucket seats, 10 Stack CD Player, dash, trim, leather and alloy wheels etc…

Mine got optioned with the sunroof, but they didn’t option the brake upgrade … sheesh … big engine stock brakes go figure! There was also a bigger engine available.\

Fell in love with this car when they first came out and 4 years later I had the opportunity to get one … 11 years on and I’ve still got it! ;D

So as of this moment I have to replace both engine mounts as they are both broken … funniest thing is to see an engine try and climb out of the bonnet. Sand and then fit the bumper. That will get me back on the road.

Future plans in no particular order

  • Finish the colour change of all of the silver body parts

  • Big Brake upgrade

  • Interior re-trim and colour change – starting to show it’s age in many places

  • New head unit and 8” sub – going to be fitting an Alpine XS-108S (I think that’s the model) 10 CD’s is no longer enough!

  • Suspension replacement … big change here – going to be fitting bags.

  • Clean and detail the engine bay .. damn things a mess!

  • New exhaust.

  • Tune

  • 90mm throttle body and bigger intake system

Its the equivilent of a pontiac bonneville for us Western’ers

sound clips or GTFO! ;D

Aussies get the coolest cars. There is a long list of cars over there that never made it to our shores. Also If Im not mistaken the 1/2 car 1/2 truck style cars are very popular over there still

Well I replaced both engine mounts last night so now I’ll be able to organise some sound clips for you. I have some other video I may edit down as a teaser, but there is a lot of feedback from the gopro I was using (version 1) so the sound is not cool.

Some of the new V8’s are pushing 435Hp from the showroom floor which is almost double what mind was 15 years ago! … mind you it’s the LS3 engine and so is eating about 6.2 litres!!

Those car/trucks your talking about are ute’s over here. And they are very popular. Big power and car comfort and styling up front, similar mod’s available to the regular sedans and wagons and the ability to take all of the stuff to the worksite. If someone wanted a 4x4 ute then it would usually be Japanese. The F series generally on got used in Mining or by the horse set who wanted to 5th wheel them and needed the towing capacity.

Like the Holden Maloo!

Skip to ~ 5 min mark to see one reel in a B8 S4.

The aussie cars are mental. American style mental. Giant engines crammed in cars that have no business being 400-500 hp. It’s awesome.

The Holden Maloo is pure radio-rental.

I was stunned how many utes you see in Australia & New Zealand. Talk about a completely worthless car other then having fun and laying down some thick rubber patches! Stateside it’s a comical car as you tend to only think about the days of the El Camino, but over there it’s the “Man’s man of cars”!

Not as completely worthless as you’d think. The one in that clip is from HSV and good for thick black lines as you said but most of the other urea tend not to have the hard top and are full of tools and other trade stuff.

Thanks for sharing the clip. Made for a good viewing

I’ve been having fun driving it around this week but I finally got a dodgy video with the sound which I just need to crop

The only good Aussie cars we got are the GTO/G8.
