ECU Removal...Little Issue

I cut the belt of mine with a dremel. Threw it in the garbage and have been running without it for probably 15k now. JHM recommended I just run without it because that’s how they run it in their shop cars

Perfect thats just what I wanted to hear lol

How/where did you cut yours off though? At that metal piece blocking the connector? Will it just slide out after that or will that damn brace with the two phuckin bolts keep holding it in?

EDIT: Look closely at 4:57, this is the point I am referring to…

cut here: use a dremel with a cutff wheel. Hold the dremely with 2 hands so you don’t go slicing up your harness on accident

Thanks again B6JoeS4. Did just that on the other side (more room) and worked like a charm. ECU is boxed up and ready to go…and the wait begins.

The wait is well worth it brother…

Hope so… ;D

No doubt. Luckily, JHM’s MO is receive ECU in AM, work magic, ship it back the same afternoon…

So jealous of you S4 folks and your ability to get a tune ;D

So jealous of you rs4 folks and your 8250 redline ;D

Even?

OP, welcome to the tuned club and AR. IIRC you are not too far from me. We should meet up so you can check out the SC…

Thanks for the warm welcome. Absolutely, I would love to check out the sc. Im in the area of central CT, not exactly sure how far that is for you though. How you enjoying that setup?

I am in the Hartford area. I am loving the kit!! I will send you a PM later.

let us know. Im sure it is. It was for me… but I live close to the guy who tunes the cars. LOL

lol. I just got it back this morning and installed it as well and holy shit, the car is a completely different animal. It pulls 100x harder than before and wherever it is it just wants to go go go. The 3 day wait was well worth it. Ill post more comments as time goes on since Ive only driven it for about 30 miles so far, but to describe it in one word its…awesome.

It’s funny when you go from stock to tuned…but almost as funny is when you go from tuned to stock.

The numb stock feel is prettty hard to get used to. I have been driving my Rs4 with a stock tune for 11 months now, and during that period I have driven two JHM tuned B7 S4s to check things out for the owners (axel’s car when JHM’s tuner and he were trying to solve something odd with his fuelling and bangoman’s car when I wanted to get a feel for his JHM stage III? clutch and lightweight flywheel). Both cars felt so much more alive, and I was lamenting the muted pedal feel when I got back in my Rs4.

MIR…have you had the bucking like a retard sensation yet when trying to cruise in a parking lot in 1st gear, or going over speedbumps etc? It’s because the throttle is so responsive compared to stock. A good trick for these low speed situations is to wedge the right edge of your right foot up against the side of the footwell and use it for stability. Floating your foot on the pedal at low speeds will jerk the car, which will then cause bucking when you are bouncing back and forth. You’ll look like a retard for a few days at most.

Congrats on the change.

LOL! This still happens to me from time to time and I’ve had my tune for a couple of years now. Still very embarrassing when it happens, too.

Thanks for the info saki! I have to say it again…the tune is awesome lol. I still cant believe how ‘lazy’ the stock pedal was the more and more I drive it.

Thats a good tip you gave regarding bracing your foot, per se, against the footwell to keep a steadier pressure against the pedal - I will definitely give that a shot. So far I havent had any issues with bucking but I havent been cruising much at slow speeds in first gear. I will give that trick a shot though and see how it feels.

It’s really noticeable if you’re in a parking lot or something, especially with speed bumps. Because of the stock throttle map being so lazy, (well described) you get a little slack but when tuned, JHM sets your throttle to be exactly what your pedal is asking for. People think it’s exaggerated but it’s not.

After I got tuned, I mentioned to JHM"s tuner (countvohn) that the pedal felt retardedly hot, so took me out in my car with him logging on vagcom. He would ask me to give it say ‘25% throttle’ or ‘50% throttle’ and hold…and when I would look over at the throttle valve angle (I think) field in vagcom, it was right where my foot was. Just shows you how bad stock is!

The RS4 has a throttle limiter from 0-5250 RPM in gears 1,2 and 3. It is 50% in cold weather. When an RS4 gets tuned you often see the guys boasting of torque gained down low after they dyno 3rd gear. It’s that limiter.

p.s. you sent it out on Monday and got it back on Wednesday morning? That’s pretty cool.

Very interesting, thanks for the info saki. It really is amazing at how much the car woke up from the tune. I know it sounds exaggerated when I say it is a completely different car, but its 100% true. I thought going catless woke the throttle up big time but thats no comparison. To realize the throttle was that lazy from the factory is pretty crazy…stock s4s dont know what they are missing haha.

RS4s only allow for 50% throttle in 1st-3rd in cold weather…did I get that right? Thats pretty crazy to say the least.

And yes, I took it out sunday night, fedex’d it monday morning and got it back this morning. Excellent turnaround and service on JHMs part for sure. I tried to minimize downtime as much as possible since the car is my dd.
