Good deal on Conti ExtremeContact DW

holy crap

how about 275 30 19?

I just ordered up my set. I went with the Conti’s mainly for the price I was getting on eBay $566 shipped and how light they are. I can’t wait to get them mounted. I have been rocking three different tires the last 6 months. I’m running Conti DWS in the rear with Pirelli P-Zero and BFG g-force up front.

Damn, 91 thats a great deal as well. If I was local I would have snatched them up.

I’ve been shopping for winter tyres recently. Maybe I’m being too anal but whether the tyre is XL load rated or not has been a determinant in what tyre I buy. I see the eBay link above goes to a Conti DW 235/40-18 rated 92ZR but Standard Load. The sticker in the door jamb suggests XL load rated tyres as do most of the websites (tirerack, Discount, Hankook.ca etc). I’ve unknowingly til now been running 91V on my Avus wheels with no problems.

Interestingly, whenever I look at A6/S6’s of a similar weight, a standard load rated tyre is often recommended.

Any views on the XL load rating and whether it’s necessary or not? Is it just a scam?

Oh and either way it’s a great deal and thanks 91 for offering a great deal to forum members.

The number (92, 95 etc) has to do with weight and the xl I think means ‘heavy, but potentially stressing the fuck out of the tire walls’ with respect to our cars’ propensity to be driven in a sporting manor.

Always get xl if you can.

Fyi the audi ‘handbook’ given to audi salesreps for the b6/7 s4 says 93y tires are ok, and doesn’t mention 95 or xl. So take that for what its worth. Maybe they accidentally put a4 info in there?

972 plus shipping, I have 8 in stock lol

Good eye! I knew that price was too good to be true. Don’t we need the XL load rating ??? thanks for catching that for me. I need to change my order ASAP. Now total will be $700 shipped.

Joe, did you get the Standard load or XL?

The forum jury 's still out - some report running a 91 with no issues. The C4 S4 weighs about the same and runs a 91 rated tyre.

Are you sure it weighs the same?

Anyway, it came from the factory with like 220 hp. The forum jury is not out. XL or bust (figuratively, hopefully not literally for you non XL guys!)

I wouldn’t do anything other than what’s on the door jamb for sure. Just relaying what my Google search showed.

Are they phasing out the DW’s? 91 I might hit you up for those tires

Anyone got deals for Conti DWS 225/35/19 All Season tires? Tirerack wants $158 each, thanks.

i can do 149 plus shipping, pm me your zip code and ill get you an accurate quote.

if you want, i have 225/35/19 ExtremeContact DW on closeout for 100 per plus shipping.

PM’ed. Is Extreme Contact DW All Season tires? Also will 225/35/19 be safe enough to support the heavy cars like ours? Thanks.

The DW is only a max performance summer tire. (DW = Dry/Wet)

The ExtremeContact DWS is the All Season (DWS = Dry/Wet/Snow)

In the size you’re looking at it has a load index of 88 which = 1235 lb/tire. I’d be cautious going with those personally, despite them also being XL.

As far as XL vs SL - here is what I found in regards to that :
SL: Standard Load; tire for normal usage and loads
XL: eXtra Load; a tire that allows a higher inflation pressure than a Standard Load tire, which increases the tire’s maximum load

So, I guess in theory you could go with an SL tire as long as it has a load rating with an adequate lbs/tire rating.

depends how you drive cell. ive personally run tires that were not load rated for my car and it was fine. some people are more anal then others. i know a guy that ONLY buys XL tires just because he feels they are safer.

Ran non-xl tires in my A4 with no issues. Tires are severely underrated for liability reasons. We have 3800lb cars, not 5000lb Bentleys so I think it’s fine.

yea you should be fine, people run 195’s on 9 inch wide wheels and they are fine lol

Thank you for the info., gentlemen!

i read somewhere that the 245s meet our load index
