Got alittle project

Managed to get a stupid stupid stupid price for this long block, figured we would have alittle fun.

I got a few more photos, motors still has assembly grease on the cams and rockers, looks to have less then 1500km’s on it. Motor was pulled and replaced at the dealership, and we have no idea if it even runs, but planning on tearing it down and seeing exactly what happened. Can’t go wrong for less then a grand.

My tech wants to build this motor for a S/C, possibly get it ready for some serious power, but was wanting to see what JHM was going to be doing with their built RS motor platform, depending on what we find on tear down, our plans may change.

What are your guys thoughts?

I’d likely save it for a core for a JHM built motor, not sure there are many options for rods or pistons out there otherwise

I couldn’t find any options for rods and pistons other than custom ones. If there’s option at hand I’d have built my b7 and kept it

We have been working on an option for some time now. ;D

Weird that people are worrying about building the motor on their RS4 when

a) the motor is very reliable
b) the motor is very, very strong, and we have seen 11.3 @ 126 MPH on stock block top to bottom from three companies
c) the known forced induction kits (TTS 500 whp, AVIVA 470 whp, JHM ??? whp but similar to the others based on trap speeds) are still 100 whp or more away from the ‘limit’ we’ve seen talked about from UGR and the like (600 whp or more, depending who you listen to)

Going 10s @ 130+ will be a very real possibility here in my opinion with small upgrades to the JHM kit (they’re going to bigger fuel pumps and a smaller pulley soon). I am struggling to think of who would be disappointed in that and wanting way more. Usually you move on when you’ve reached the limit. Nobody has been remotely close yet.

Why are people worrying about it? I sold mines because it became boring that’s why! If the option to build was there I’d have took it. Why go 11’s when you can do 10’s why go 10’s when you can go 9’s?? See where going with it? The option to build would just be a nice option to have, everyone secretly wants that little bit more. Didn’t know you designing internals jake, wish I’d have known that before I sold a year ago.

My point is that you sold for other reasons, not because there was no upside. In your words, you got bored. Your car was TTS supercharged for what…5 months when you sold it?

There’s a long way to go before you need to build an RS4’s motor. That’s all I am saying.

I’d like to have the motor because I like working on engines, but don’t want to tear apart my own car.

Tts kit in December sold in August the following year. I don’t think there’s much to be had, maybe 50hp I think the 600whp mark is too high

Quick little update, im gonna get Jeff to email me the photos, but he cracked open the motor, found that it had a spun rod bearing/bearings. I can’t remember if it was just one cylinder? But I have a feeling it was 3/4. I’ll double check today.

This might be a good candidate for a JHM Stage 3 build! Not sure if anyone knows if an Rs5 motor is usable or not?

I also did have a chat with Dru, got some crazy stuff coming out of that shop soon, when I talked to him on friday they had 5 RS4 's on site, 4 of which were charged. Nucking futs!

exactly. They aren’t fucking around with one car and hoping shit works. This is why I laugh at people who think they only have one car with the kit. There are a bunch. More than amd and apr combined.

I will be there next week visiting when I’m in california. I will take some photos.

They know there shit, just as simple as that, exciting to see where it goes from here now.

Please do take some photos! I can only imagine it’s a fairly small/medium sized shop, but would love to see the place! I have friends in San Francisco, that I’ve been meaning to visit and have been thinking about make a quick pitstop at JHM, put some faces to names, and get some parts… :stuck_out_tongue:
