NHRA approved tracks are supposed to require a helmet with Snell 2005 rating or newer. Open faced is legal as long as you don’t run 9.99 or faster.
Welp, that didn’t go as well as I would have liked, but it was still a blast. The best I ran was 13.76 @ 101.65. I didn’t get there until about 8:15 after sitting in Boston traffic for 2 fucking hours and was only able to get 4 runs in. Here come the excuses haha ;D My buddy that was meeting me up there ditched at the last second so I didn’t have a safe spot to leave my spare, tools, and cooler with 15lbs of ice. My launches, using LA, sucked all 4 times. Twice it bogged a little (see video) and twice there was too much wheel spin. On my third run, the shift nob slid off the shifter on my 1-2 shift. That was an adventure. In general the car just felt slower than normal. Oh well. There’s definitely some room for improvement.
This run was 13.89 @ 100.37

post up those 60’ times man…or the slips if you have them, then Saki can see where you are leaving time on the table, he loves that shit and he is really good at it. From the video it don’t look like you were holding the LA too long…but your shift could have been a little faster. Also, what RPM are you shifting at?
Just stick with it, good times will come when you get more comfortable out there.
Don’t lose heart my man, there’s a first time for everything. The main thing is to have fun and not put too much pressure on yourself. The quick times will follow. The classic was saki in April who came to Cayuga to “hang out and take pics” and ended up leaving with the stock RS4 record. LOL.

Thanks for the encouragement guys. I will be heading back up there before the track closes down. Next time a little more prepared. This was my worst 60’ of the night but my best overall run. I’ve never had so much wheel spin using launch assist, the car actually got a little sideways outta the gate. In all but my last run, I sat in the staging lanes for at least 25 minutes so I’m sure heat soak was affecting power some. I was shifting at just below 7k on 1-2 and 6500 for the rest.
Shifting points are good.
1st and 2nd gear you’re losing time as is evident in your 330 foot time compared to the quarter mile time. Probably 2-3 tenths. That’s mostly the launch frankly, which can be tough to get right.
Still, with your modlist I wouldn’t exect 13.4 to be your result (if you nailed the launch). I also wouldn’t expect you to be hovering around 102 MPH trap speed with that modlist. I would expect 105-106 more realistically.
The Stasis catback is probably not ideal…but its not likely that detrimental. Can you remember if it is 2.25 or 2.5? I think it has no crossover and bends aren’t ideal.
p.s. any other similar cars there that night? What’d they run? i.e. ISF, RS4, M3, C63 etc.
The stasis cb is 2.5", has a crossover and I’m not necked down anywhere. I know the FI is a better system but I don’t think the Stasis system is that big of a disadvantage. I’ve been looking for a B7 FI system to show up in the classifieds but that just hasn’t happened. There were a couple B5 S4’s (one broke down in the staging lane, ha), a C5 S6 and quite a few E36 M3’s. I talked to the B5 guy (that was still running) and his times were nearly identical to mine. He was about .6 off his normal pace and was also having problems launching. Not sure what mods he had. Unfortunately I didn’t have any time to park and watch so I didn’t see what other cars were running. As soon as I was done I just drove right back around to the staging lanes. The place was packed.
^^^yeah, that’s why I asked. Stasis is fine if that’s how it is setup. I don’t think I’d bother swapping. Stasis sounds good?
When I go to the strip, I like to make 2-3 runs then park the car for 60-80 minutes to let it cool down. I will sometimes put a big bag of ice on top of the intake manifold, with a towel under it to catch any water dripping. The oil temps will cool down a ton, getting back down to around 60 celsius (after being at 110 celsius after my third run for example)
In staging I park it with the hood up and the engine OFF. I let a big chunk of slack build up in front as guys move up, then start the car and roll it forward, but turn it off as it’s rolling (just look under the gap under the hood even though it’s up). Bsaically my engine is not really on at all in staging.
Doing this I can, on a busy day, get the car to the line with my oil temperature at around 70 degrees Celsius for that first pass after parking the car. I tested it once and after letting it sit, I left the hood down in staging and left the car idling the whole time. When I got to the front of the line, my oil temp was 96 celsius…that’s a pretty big difference. That’s why I do what I do.
When you stage, make sure you BARELY BAERLY BARELY trip that second light. This will give you a full 12 inches of rollout. The clocks don’t start till the back of your front tire passes the second staging beam…so you want to STOP when you BARELY trip that beam. The difference between a deep stage and a shallow stage is 2-3 tenths believe it or not. That is on your ET so take advantage and SHALLOW STAGE!
Not sure what other little things you’re leaving on the table. Sounds like if you were smart enough to build such a nice mod list, you likely know what you’re doing. I just like to mention all these little things becuase they’re easy to forget.
