I'm Back

Good explination / info. I had also been wondering about that as well.

Chris pretty much nailed it… PD blowers need as much air as possible which is why I wanted to try a larger TB but couldn’t get one that would work… APR is testing TB’s right now on the new blower and is up to 80MM vs our stock 70MM… Look at the 03-04 Cobra’s, GT500’s etc. Most run open air intakes…

If you buy one and have a vagcom cable log your air mass readings with the stock intake and then with the Roc Euro and you’ll see a nice increase in air flow… IMO the header wrap is worth it and probably even more so on the tube they use vs what I am using…

here is the wrap I use…

[quote]The b8 being supercharged is going to need more free flowong air then pressurized air. Chances are you can mess with the stock air box on the b8 amd get better flow.

On tbr 4.2 na motors the air box created a high pressure zone due to its size…with the. Throttle being the low pressure zone the na cars do well with the air box as the air box is assisting in the motor getting the air quicker…

On the jhm supercharger 4.2 there is no room for am air box

On thr b8 s4 once you add more boost then stock the air box will probably never be a high pressure zone again so then it comes down to what has the least restriction in getting air to the blower quick enough… if you cant pressurize the air box then its less and less valuable…the open elements are zero pressure but good flow…the blower gets to tbe point it is going to be pulling in the air at such a rate that it just makes sense to get everything out of its way and open up the intake best you can

Most of the b8 intakes look flimizy and cheep…I haven’t seen them all…so far there must be a difference between them all as each seems to bave difference between them

Thanks Chris. This helps explain. Appreciate it.

Thanks Prime. Yeah I’ll try to vag it when I get one to see the difference for fun. The wrap is the stuff or something like it that I was going to use before.

^^^oh and RocEuro is the guy from Strat’s new company after Strat went bankrupt. Not sure if you saw that unfold likewater.

Ah really? Is it John? That would help explain the design resemblance.

Yeah that is him… It’s the same intake he just bought the rights to it or got them someway…

^^^ Cool. Glad to see this design actually works for the B8. And, glad he’s back on the scene.

I just went APR Stg2 this morning. I will say that I am impressed. I had GIAC Stg1 on my B8 and have been contemplating ever since I got my B8.5 which route to go. This is the first APR product that I have ever purchased. I like the fact that if I ever wanted to I could upgrade to Stg3. Sitting back and watching the results of the B8.5 tune, I don’t think that I could tell the difference from the butt dyno. I am running AWE CB, a modified EC intake, Hotchkiss Sways, H&R OE Sports, EC AK, and EC links and more…I have no complaints about any of my mods, except one, which I will starts a separate thread at a later date.

similar feel to the B8 GIAC vs. B8.5 APR2?

or noticeable difference?

I’ll be eager to hear more. Please do make a separate post.

This welcome back thread has spawned many great subjects.

Wonderful new car, welcome back

Its been a while since I drove the B8, but it certainly feels quicker. I feel confident that it is and I’d bet the low end is making feel even more so. I thought the GIAC Stg1 was quick. I was the original GIAC time on Tsivas track going back. I put a 12.02 in optimal conditions with good shifts, however, it was GIAC’s initial release file and it was bypassing boost in the top of the revs. I went back and got an update and it did feel better, but never went back to do another 60-130. I may go down and pbox my new car just to see the difference, we’ll see. Only thing that matters is that I’m satisfied with the results, nice & quick for a DD sedan.

Haha. Yeah this has been fun already for sure. I felt like I knew the B6 really well. This thread is a way to quickly ramp up the B8 knowledge quotient. I am loving every minute with this car.

As promised, here’s a quick (crappy cell phone) clip of a run against my buddies B8 S4. He’s got Stasis tune, AWE cat-back/ DP’s and APR intake. He’s 6MT and I’m DSG and completely stock - except for tint - I think that adds 15 whp :stuck_out_tongue:

First run was in 2nd gear for both cars. Pretty even/fair start I would say and you can see he pulls.

Second run, barely rolling so not a dig but close and you can hear my friend say “just go when you’re ready” clearly an advantage for me as he has to make up the reaction time. With that I get a fair jump on him and he reels me in. I had to let off for traffic but it wouldn’t have mattered.

No surprises here to me. Just wanted to see what my $$$ is going to buy me when I have similar or better mods.

^^ Not bad for a cell phone video. Gotta be Stasis v2.

Yeah it is.

likewater, great member to add to the AR list. Welcome

^^^^ Thanks appreciate the warm welcome.
