I’ve never drove a b6 and I’m in need of some information pertaining to the differences between the b5 and b6’s driving characteristics. The 2002 b6 I have has a blown motor so I am not able to drive it and determine this for myself. Any info about how well the b6 is built will be highly appreciated and will help me decide if I should do this swap before the end of this month. I would love to drive something different to H20i this year. Thanks
clint on AZ…he just swapped a B5 chassis motor into a B6 chassis car. (2.7t vs 4.2 though).
He may have posted here too about this in the B6 B7 S4 section.
Go for it!
The bast way to swap a B5 V6 motor into a B6 is to start with a 3.0L. The rad/core support/ snub location are the closest in similarity to the 2.7 vs the 1.8 and 4.2 B6 variant cars. Also I believe other things like power steering/ A/C lines are also closer, but you’d have to talk to somebody like Clint for the specifics.
It should be noted that we never saw anything from Clint proving it “worked” or was successful…just that he was working on this and got a car driving.
I give Clint credit for doing a do it yourself for people interested, but I’m not worried about completing the swap, I’m more concerned about chasis and how sturdy the car feels. I posted here because I thought that maybe a few of you b6 owners may have previously owned a b5 and wanted some feed back on comfort features. I should be able to have the car completed in less than 7 days, wired and successfully becoming .2 sec slower than my b5 is now, haha
Thanks for the push!
What kind of proof did you want, a Certificate of Completion of something?
As much as I think that car is terrible, it is up an running and has been for quite some time.
He did live in MD and the car has driven all over the mid-atlantic, came down to GA for SoWo where I saw it in person (why I think it looks like shit), and now Clint has moved down to FL with the car. Soon he will be taking it up to H20 to sell. Going 1/2 way down the east coast several times shows to me it works. I may not like the idea and as I said think the car looks fucking terrible with the body kit on it, but none-the-less it does drive as it should so the swap was a success.
