Just the one for me but I am “in the city”.
I’m just above 3k as primary sole driver on the RS4 with a spotless record and with staff discount.
But I also live a few minutes from pacific mall…
Wow, Mistro, that’s brutal.
that’s racist
I’m 20 and I only pay $1400 a year. Reason why I state my age is because 1400 is high, and it’s because of my age. When I’m 30, the same insurance will be about $500/yr. Something is really fucked up north eye
Only if you draw conclusions. Insurance companies only look at the accident and risk numbers

Smaller country, smaller economy. We end up paying more for most goods and services. Sucks but as Canadians we get many other things that offset it.
I always thought it would be much cheaper living in Canada vs the UK. The house and car were much cheaper but everything else seems more expensive.

stop paying for everything with beaver pelts and it wouldn’t be so damn costly…
city vs. non city is a big deal here, worcester vs. worcester suburbs is typically a 50-80% increase to be in wormtown.
In 2001 at age 24 I bought a 1998 Nissan 240SX and paid $2040 a year.
As of today my wife and I pay $1464 combined on a 2006 TJ and a 2011 Highlander.
Age would seem to be the greatest factor. Much more so than the car being insured (given that none of us are driving Pagani Zondas or Veyrons)
In fact in this recent insurance transaction of mine we did the following:
- reduced deductibles from 1000 to 500
- removed collision from the TJ
- replaced $6000 2003 Murano with $34,000 2011 Highlander
and our premium fell from 1665 to 1464.
They don’t seem to give much attention to the $28,000 increase in replacement cost we threw their way. They just care that we’re still old, married and responsible.
oh and that our cars aren’t modified lol
yeah age is a massive determinent, its a big drop after you leave the under 25 bracket. Its all statistics and under 25 male is a big risk.

Here’s the HUGE reason for your price dropping or not rocketing up with the deductible reduction and addition of a more expensive car

I always thought that, but it turned out to be a myth. It drops steadily. There’s no massive drop anywhere on the age curve (speaking from experience going through a few of those age levels and anticipating a great savings…and being disappointed everytime).
see I’ve heard of the opposite here, MA has some fairly interesting vehicle insurance laws. People with no changes in surchargeable incidents with similar mileage driven getting large drops for the first renewal after 25, then a steady rate drop afterwards. Still aways away from observing it for myself though.
Yeah it drops steadily until you get elderly, then it flys up again. Mine didn’t drop at all until 19. Supposedly 24 is where the big drop hits
Vehicle value makes little to no difference. My dad replaced is $11k 05 Envoy with a new e550 and his insurance went up $6 over a year.

They’re more worried in who you might kill or injure rather than replacing your own vehicle. And usually, if you have an at-fault write-off accident, they know they’ll get that money back by raising your premiums (knowing that you won’t be able to switch insurance companies with that big an accident on your record). However, if they have to pay out $1M in liability to someone else, they’re not getting that money back (or at least not within 10-15 years).
Axel,
I know you asked about insuring a modified car, have you considered asking about something specific such as a BBK? Such a mod might shed some light on the “modified issue” and back an insurance rep into a corner.
Just a thought.

I haven’t asked about specific mods no. That said, if I asked “Would you be willing to insure a car that had modified brakes?”, my guess is that they would tune out at the word “modified”. If I used a different word such as “enhanced”, they’d probably respond with “What do you mean by enhanced? As in modified?” to which I’d have to answer “yes” and the standard spiel would start.
At this point, I admit I’ve given up the search. However, if I ever run into someone that claims they know of an insurance co. that works with modified cars, I’d for sure give them a call. Just tired of always getting the same answer at this point.
yeah, they would freak out thinking you’re going to slam into the rear end of a bus because you ‘modified’ your brakes, making them worse.
