Just picked up a Porsche 911

Very nice pickup, definitely a clean combination there. Hope you enjoy it, but I’m also looking forward for the real project of yours to finish up.

It’s a car not a minivan. Heck, people make the same objection you made about allroads, RS4s, etc.

If you have 911 money, you can have a 911 and a minivan. So there’s that handled.

Good point.

If you want Porsche’s minivan, than you get a Macan

The best comparison to the 997 C4s in the Audi lineup would be the v8 R8. But, with the C4s you are getting a car with rear seats, that I can take my kids to daycare in.

In the above comparison, the C4s had the factory powerkit.

I never understood the purpose of the two tiny rear seats in the 911 until I recently found myself searching for a sports car that would suit my needs as a Father of, soon to be, two children. There are a very small number of modern day, 2-door, sports cars, that have rear seats and AWD (can be driven in winter).

The Ferrari FF @ $300k is a bit out of my price range

New wheel and shifter installed. They are from a GT2RS, and alcantara. Feels great and gives the interior a much more sporty feel. Ive got read seatbelts too, so all the red accents work nicely together without being too much red.

Fairly straight forward install, following instructions on the net.

Disconnected battery and got no persisting errors after install.

However, my horn doesnt work. It is going in and out fine, but no sound. Researching on the web, and it seems like a common problem after the 997.2 steering swap. Looks like a need a new control module, but Ill do a bit more research first, before ordering one.

The old setup looked something like this…

Looking sharp!

just get an exhaust and rev your shit at people. That’s what I do.

LOL

I have also employed that technique in the past

Looking nice! Surprised neither wheel came flat bottom from factory.

Looks great! Nice companion (eventually) for the S6

Any other planned mods for the 911?

Thanks

I shouldnt be modding the 911, but it is impossible for me to leave well enough alone. So, yeah, a few more mods are planned.

I need some lightweight wheels, and lowering springs or coilovers. Normally, I would only do coilovers, but apparently the PASM shocks handle the springs very well, with the active damping.

And I couldnt pass up this OEM GT3RS front bumper, when I found it on Kijiji

It needed a repair, which I had done. I later found out that you have to order a whole whack of accompanying parts to fit it properly, including new LED sport lights, and all the ducting and grills. So, the deal I got on the bumper is still going to cost me a pretty penny by the time its all done. Should look something like this when complete…

Im still undecided what to do with the side skirts and rear wing. But Ill figure something out

Get the gt3rs wheels maybe and the requisite hub changes. But I wouldn’t do body kit/bumpers

The front bumper is pretty much a done deal. I already have the LED lights. Just need to buy about $600 worth of other parts. Install and paint is free at a high end bodyshop, due to a credit that I have with them.

I find the front bumper on the stock 997 kinda weak, visually. The GT3RS one should change the look of the car quite dramatically, I think. In any case, OEM parts in the Porsche community sell in a split second on the used market, so if I dont like it, or if I sell the car, its easy to take it off and sell it.

The centerlock hub conversion looks incredible, but cost big bucks (I think it is like $5k USD). So, no way I would do that, even though I love the look. A lot of the GT3 guys who have it switch to 5-bolt. There are some issue with the system, which I cant remember off the top of my head.

For the wheels, Ill probably go with a multispoke design. Something like the TSW Nurburging, but not that exact model. That type of wheel is lightweight, and kinda matches the era of the 997.

Ive got some other things planned for the car that will make it stand out. It will likely be a lot more flashy than anything Ive had before. Not everyone is going to like it, but who cares. Its only a car, and the P-car parts are easy to liquidate. Especially with the US dollar right now
