Let's play "Guess that dyno number"!!

Sak, I’m trying not to create animosity with you, and I still wish you wouldn’t take what I’m saying as a knock on you so often. I don’t even see where you posted about shift points.

What I’m telling G-Rat is how shift points are determined…always, doesn’t matter if it’s a Noble or a Fiat 500. CV, Dan and Jason would agree, ask them. I’ll quote myself again

If you like, here’s some reading

In reality though… Shift points are really not going to help me get into the 13s with this kind of power. However, for argument sake, I will try both methods when I go to the track next month.

I guess I should start focusing on handling and looks while I save for the JHM SC. Luckily altitude has little (if any) effect on the handling of a car. I’ll get my FI catback then turn to suspension/wheels/etc.

Any advise for a solid suspension setup on a B6? I guess I could start a new thread.

I have no experience with other cars. I just know with my piggies/exhaust/tune car, 6600rpm shifts reproduced quarter mile times that were consistent with what others had run with the same setup.

And to get that time, all the stars had to line up - the perfect launch, 3 perfect shifts at 6600rpm, staying in a straight line.

Question for the 1/4 mile guys…

I was thinking yesterday, wouldn’t the ideal launch be at peak torque instead of higher in the rev range where torque falls off?

I looked on the azoo and you did good hp w9se for that altitude. On the launch yiur going to have to see how the car reacts to the track and what the track can hold.

I wouldnt worry too much abkut shift poijts. Feel the csr out and take it one pass at a time. W8th that altitude why dont you run the 93 jhm program…thats what a lot of the other guys do

I really thought about doing the 93 but my only concern was going to Vegas or Arizona on a road trip, being at lower altitude and not being able to get 93. Guess I could bring along a 5 gal of race gas to mix…or just not floor it, but that’s sooooo hard Haha. Love that V8 sound.

Also, I tested my thought about the peak torque launch… wow what a difference. Much more wheelspin. I’d say that the 60 ft would be great if I could get traction.

More to test at the track I guess. I’m excited.

having more torque may not help if all it does is cause more spin

Launching at 3200-3500 works well if you just drop it. Maybe need 3600-3700 at altitude.

Has anyone talked about using LA? I love that shit and the consistency is amazing.

Agreed… I did it at 3600-700 today.

But you’re right, traction is key, especially at peak torque. If I can hook, the car will move. But as I said, will test both methods at the track.

I love love love the JHM LA. My only problem is that the car bogs a bit more than I would like (probably because it is designed to work better at lower altitudes)… that’s why I started thinking about the torque peak thing.

If I can pull off better launches at 3600… might have to ask JHM for a new tune with 93 octane.
