Measuring Pulleys

haha that’s funny. Good catch.

Funny that he’s selling pulleys and no software online. He has sold a few of those.

That looks like a heck of a small pulley FWIW.

Does anyone have sizing on the stock vs APR or AWE pulley?

Stock is 63.25mm at outer ribs. APR is 57.75mm at outer ribs. GIAC…I couldn’t figure out from Pete’s worksheet…:-). Someone should oblige. Measure like this:

7 rib belt is stock? Nice.

It’s funny when we see 4.2 supercharger kits using the stock 5 rib belt aux from the NA motor. ‘Reslipe’ for disaster.

Gotta love harbor freight tools!

It’s actually from crappy tire, I think

Apparently the SRM pulley on auction is 57.45 mm. Interesting.

Awaiting somebody, anybody, to measure the GIAC pulley. Takes 60 sec if you can reach the belt tensioner with a wrench and push it. Jones, Pete, salmon?

Thanks for linking me over to this thread regarding pulley size yesterday Jspazz.

I found on AZ a post by Auditude saying "The GIAC pulley is .05 inches smaller than the APR one. Resulting in about .4psi more boost at WOT. "

If accurate the following would be:

Stock = 63.25mm
APR = 57.75mm
GIAC/AWE = 56.48mm

Any thoughts on real world significance between the latter two?

Thanks and nice work Jspazz!

Please use caution with the Auditude measurements…I remember we talked about measurements a bunch of ways, including the outer lip O.D., and I wasn’t sure he was measuring it the same way, so it may not be 100% accurate. I wouldn’t consider extrapolation of those numbers to 56.48 mm accurate.

If someone can measure exactly the way shown to compare, or just ask Todd/Austin/whoever, probably would be the best.

I will go out on a limb and say they’re close enough that you wouldn’t notice a difference. Bet a Coke you could swap APR for GIAC pulleys, and your performance would be virtually identical.

You could say that about a lot of performance parts that are worth 5-10 hp. Why now?

Why now? That makes no sense. I’m not saying ‘performance parts that make 5-10 hp are not discernible’. So I’m not saying that now or any other time.

I’m saying I think there is almost no difference in size. In fact, I said

Actually you said performance, not size. To a deaf person, the 5-10 hp you gain from an intake can’t be felt either. From the logs I’ve seen, its possible GIAC cars have a smaller pulley. It hasn’t translated into performance yet necessarily because we’ve still noticed the cars bleeding boost due to some load map issue that they may have fixed now.

A 56.5mm pulley may be useful in developing a bit more flow, especially in the lower rev ranges…which may be useful to someone like EYEspi at altitude…even if it’s a minor difference, it all adds up.

Anyway would be nice if someone measured the pulleys. Bueller?

Great info, local AWE dealer should have some back in stock next week, I will see if they let me lay hands on it to get a measurement. Jspazz is absolutely correct every little bit will help. I took car of the first issue today, ditched the Yoko S-Drives and put on some proper Hankook winters

nope

I said they’re close enough. Obviously in size. Then I said you wouldn’t notice the difference.

Go beat your kids.

Haha, you two kill me

lol no love lost

Someone needs to cut down on caffeine…

If jspazz wants to pick nits in a quest to show me to be wrong, he will get it right back. It’s pretty funny to watch from where I sit. If you want to jump on and have a good old pile on, I guess that’s your deal. Have a couple of free kicks!
