Hey man I won’t argue he’s done a pretty nice job of testing in comparison to others users and some company’s for that matter. I’ll even admit the product may produce some gains by tricking the ecu, even though something like that would never be for me it probably “works” to some extent.
Where we disagree is Mike being honest about this product and his relationship with CW. He’s getting paid IMO, no worries though I don’t post on vendorzine…
The whole advertiser/vendor thing is really weird these days… CW and Mike make all those threads and posts and get no flack really, which is weird given how the “management” has treated many including myself… I never asked APR but I’d bet they, GIAC, EPL, etc. complained but the threads persisted… Strange really… My guess is Toni is getting paid by these clowns as well… Again, means 0% to me just talking about it on our small forum over here…
As for Mike, I’ve interacted with him via email and the sites… No hard feelings from me just stating the facts…
Gotta give the guy credit, between the CW convo and his oil change debacle he’s started 2 of the most viewed and commented on topics on AZ. If he’s indeed a marketing tool for CW he’s done his job well.
I’m kinda in a holding pattern right now. I want to wait to see if APR can fix the TCU issues before I go any further. I’m also a little salty about the pulleys and how they were released. I would have waited to buy the oversized crank pulley had I known it was coming out a month after they released the light weight crank pulley. I guess it just would have been nice if I got a heads up from Jake about the oversize pulley, since he knew I was buying the lightweight crank pulley. Oh well, it is, what it is. I just can’t justify $500 right now after just spending $400, plus the cost to install. I like Jake on this forum, and I like what JHM is doing for our platform. Let’s just say that next time a product is released, I will wait a little before buying! Live and learn.
Thats kinda sucks, but it really happens to a lot of people. JHM has always been pretty tight lipped about releasing things.
I rebuilt my heads with OEM parts a week after I was done JHM notified everyone of their rebuilt and upgraded head program. I would have most definitely waited and sent the heads to them for an upgrade if I would have known about it. I consider myself to have a pretty decent relationship with them and I even inquired about recommendations by them to see who they would trust to do a head rebuild.
The problem is you may have been perfectly fine with the LW pulley, like 99% of the B8 world with no interest in running a double pulley setup. Also, this doubly pulley thing just came up in the last month or so with decent results…the tunes aren’t even nailed down yet. The JHM part really is helping the B8 GUYS, especially if they are stock. They will be able to replace the shit OEM crank pulley and increase the boost of their supercharger for stage 2…AND reduce some rotating weight on the crank.
I think you should buy it and sell off the pulley you currently have. Sure you will loose a little $$, but there has to be a market for resale.
Yeah I do apologize for that, the OD pulley was something that we weren’t going to release for a while. I had mentioned that we had already had one developed in one of the AZ threads when a user started to tell us that we should make one and we got bombarded with inquires on the OD pulley. Since we had already proven it works like we intended it to we allowed people to get in on the first production batch with pre-sales and it kind of went from there.
If I had known that we would be releasing the OD pulley as soon as we did, I would have definitely have gone over it with you. I always do my best to help a customer get what they need or what best suits them instead of selling them on something they don’t.
Is the pulley brand new, and never installed? Can you email me some pics of it? I will see if I can pull some strings and give you full credit of the regular pulley towards the OD pulley.
Looks like Mike@CW’s went out again and ran a great time… Props to him for continuing to run the car and produce better times… 12.128 at 113 is pretty damn good! DA was -60ish…
The fact the Revo stage 1+ (stage 2 to everyone else) car that also ran last night at PBIR is running a 12.1 @ 115 with basic mods tells me a lot of it has to do with the track. Admittedly, there aren’t a ton of Revo 1+ times out there, but the next best I can find is a 12.4 @ 113.
Looks like Mike switched to Unitronic… Pretty nice pump time given his mods but good conditions and track… Nice to see him switch to a tune and keep pushing things! I’ll no longer refer to him as Mike@CW… lol Hopefully, he’ll chime in…
[QUOTE=bhvrdr;11365809]Today I received a Unitronic+ dongle in the mail and I had to try it out.
The Unitronic Uniconnect+ flashing interface is a really professional looking interface. It requires no support and is completely hassle free. I didnt want to have to be waiting for days of customer support just to flash back to stock if needed. This interface automatically detects your stock software box code and the proper revision and it automatically has all files that should be available to you stored in the flash screen for you to choose from. Evil_O did a really nice writeup on their interface if you havent looked at it…
I accomplished my initial flash within 15 minutes of unpacking the cable. Once I was flashed I headed out for some logging and torture testing. Here is a run group of logs. Everything looked as expected. I uploaded the more aggressive file that is suggested for those with upgraded intercooling. During the summer I may back down to their less aggressive 93 octane file. Choices are good.
Once everything logged out safely, I looked at the time and realized our local 1/4 mile track opened for test’n’tune in an hour. I normally wouldnt go on a Friday but I had to. Here were the results…
Yes, this is the same trap speed as with the Chipwerke Stage 2. That was not shocking in that the performance logs from both setups showed the bypass valve completely closed and the car making decent timing. Subjectively, there is zero jerkiness under any throttle conditions. There was a bit of jerkiness under part throttle load with the CW. In addition, with the Unitronic the air fuel curve is slightly richer down lower in the rev range than the OEM fuel curve which I admit I likely would have done as well if I were able to calibrate it so that is nice for heat mitigation. Overall I am very pleased with the tune and the flashing interface has exceeded my expectations. I am anxiously awaiting a DSG tune from Unitronic as this is the one area my car continues to suffer shifting at 6400rpm.
