More Air

It’ll reach AZ classic status in no time, I’m sure. Especially when the other sub forums ‘catch wind’ of it (lol pun intended).

Yeah, I read the thread in full before posting the link. Sure.

Ya we were pretty tame. But now he’s opened himself up to the zoo.

Your car looks great (almost). The hood (which may or may not contain a chicken) isn’t as bad as everyone thought. Hopefully it works.

DO me a favour. I will +karma you every day for a 10 days if you put the rings back where they belong.

There’s a thing in design/photography/aesthetics called the rule of thirds. If taking a photo, or showing a news broadcast, imagine the screen divided into 9 sections three by three. You want the subject to be on one of those third lines, preferably where thetwo of them intersect. You want your horizon on one of the third lines as well. If you do things right dead centre, it loses its visual weight and wrecks the photo.

Your grill is a good exampe. Audi followed the rule of thirds (everyone does) and you undid it. Not only is it weird, but it just looks worse.

ANyway, as I said your car/colour scheme look great. THe mean RS grille too. Just please move those rings back!

Gents, it’s easy to be brave when all most do is put wheels and an exhaust on their cars.

You won’t find that ‘most’ here… Lots of pioneers here.

Wow - not something I would do, but I hope you had fun getting it done and like the results.

Agree with PsYkHoTiK – please do logs of this with and without the duct capped. I’m concerned that being so close to the front of the car you might actually see lower pressure at the duct location than from the front of the car, and you won’t get any benefit at all.

From Primetime/Drob23’s logs - these engines need about 600 SCFM at redline with Stg2 (hope I did that right - 2750 lbm/sec = 600 SCFM)… or 10 per sec. The stock intake snorkel looks to be about 2"x8" - or .11 sq. ft. so you need about 90 ft/s through this to supply the air. That would be about 60 miles per hour - I think somewhere above that (the flow isn’t straight in for the stock snorkel) the duct might act more as a vent due to ram pressure.

Looking forward to what the logs show.

Did you remove the little “snow screen” in the stock intake to remove that restriction?

I do. Heck, can’t modify a post, can’t even get my avatar to show. Perhaps poor operator technique?

An IT joke would be a PEBKAC error. haha!

And you’re 5 posts away from getting edit permissions.

5 more posts. You can do it.

Ed, Unfortunately the 4 logs you sent me were no good really… 1. just showed 6 data points in regards to transmission cooler values. 2. showed 9 data points including air mass but you didn’t hit turbo or group by and only 1 data point is a high rpm but it does show 13.875 degrees of timing and decent MAF value. 3. blank file 4. blank file… Sorry, nothing really in these…

Ron, sorry, that’s what I thought. I’ll run some more and then cap the inlet, turn off the meth, do it again, same road, same day within minutes of each other. Thanks for your patience.

Any pics on how they did your meth?

I’ll do some today, that’s another adventure!

Ed, No worries man… Keep us posted and let me know if I can help with the logging in anyway…

I know what CFM is…what’s an SCFM?

These cars in stage 2 running low 12s on pump gas are probably moving about 550-600 CFM (if we assume they make around 450 hp…hard to guess). They’re also amazing as far as the shape of the curve goes, so their performance is not entirely top end hp based. Not a steep slope to peak HP…amazingly full.

Turn off the meth for both runs. So that it’s apples to apples testing (with no other variable thrown into the mix). Or do three tests:

  1. Meth and duct
  2. Duct (meth off)
  3. Duct blocked (meth off)

Errr roger, wilco, over and out. I like pretending I’m in a movie!
