right. thanks. just saw those a few minutes after i made that post. the pipe after the cat just goes straight down!
…nevermind
Why do you need a X connector? I noticed the stock exhaust has what looks like a type of X connector (looks like a big box though).
However, the S4 exhaust is seperate with no X connection.
the x-pipe balances the exhaust pressure between the two cylinder banks increasing scavenging… so when one bank is at a lower pressure the pulses from the other bank can rush through the x-pipe into the other pipe increasing scavenging, or the sucking force each pulse exerts on the intake charge behind it.
that’s interesting, thanks
does anyone know why they don’t do the same on the S4?
They do the RS4 and the S4 pretty much have the same exhaust. Madison might have some pictures of his posted up on the B6/B7 threads or could post some if we ask him nicely I believe he has the FI exhaust.
I have a S4 exhaust and no crossover from the fwd resonators (where the pipes clamp). Maybe it’s before that?
^ Ask and you shall receive.

Mad do you happen to have a picture of your stocker, but don’t need the one that was in between factory to F.I.
^I don’t think I have any, but finding some stock photos shouldn’t be too hard.
Here’s a stock catback I found on google (but I don’t recall the kinda crushed portion after the center resonator).

That looks identical to the 3.0 exhaust except the quad tips. They all have flattened pipe sections for clearance
The DTM S4 exhaust has no X or crossover. They are independent pipes.
Curious if it will run worse without the crossover?
Does DTM have any comparision numbers or have you done any logs to compare from oem to the dtm exhaust? But it probably won’t be as effective as one with the X, plus the tune to go with the exhaust is also very helpful almost a must.
it’s interesting because the DTM S4 exhaust is full stainless, all oem
resonators, mufflers, all are OEM stamped audi system
Good to know.
If you look at some of the older audi V8’s they all had X sections. even the 2.7T cars.
I think due to manufacturing cost and possibly having better ECU control to keep each side of the motor ballenced that they stopped doing it.
LaBree high flow CATS/DP’s.
Aluminized and ceramic coated.

If You have a manual trans You will need the flex pipe moved or it will hit the TRANS support and
give You an undesired cabin noise.
