New Z06 info leak - Supercharged V8

Corvetteforum has countless threads and arguments on the topic. Peak you won’t see much but midrange and down low you will.

My dads Z06 picked up over 40 PEAK hp/twq from headers/tune. Most was probably attributed to a tune but mid range there were larger gains. I’ll have to see if I can dig up the old sheets.

about the new Z06? Because it’s not even out yet…

p.s. 40 whp/wtq on a car that makes around 460 stock isn’t ‘a lot’ especially when there’s a tune in there to skew the results. JHM tuned/exhaust B67 S4s gain that without headers. Throw in headers and you’re looking at 60-70. That’s a lot, especially on a car that only makes 260 whp stock.

Obviously not the new one so its not apples to apples but historically speaking is all I am saying. Only time will tell, but I do agree on the supercharger basically being tapped out as it is.

Corvette exhaust systems are pretty good from the factory. Lots of C6 guys just do long tubes and call it a day. Catback gains are negligible.

They can spin the blower harder. Lots of TVS 2.3 cobras pushing them beyond their limits. Sure you sacrifice reliability, but its worth it when the only other option is a $5k big whipple. All you are going to do is ruin the bearings which are cheap.

Their will be big gains with bolt ons, their always is in the domestic market…

I wouldn’t doubt if we see high 9’s in the 1/4 with just slicks.

The ZR1 did 10.3 with just slicks and is heavier, has less hp and less tq than the new Z06…

They will both be around 3400 lbs. Zr1 had more 640 HP to the Z06 625 but Z06 will have more torque 635 to the Zr1 605. Have the rules been laxed at the strip for factory unmodified cars yet?

for a few years they have

Pretty cool. It definitely is out to make a statement.

+1

This car is fast but who cares really…just like the GT-R they fucked up the rear end. Big fat ass vampire fang tail lights, retarded spoiler, and a atomic wedgy for a rear valence. This car is not practical as a daily either, heavy rain or snow and its fucked.

I’ll still take a 8 year old stage III+ 4.2 without blinking over this over hyped garbage

yup and I love GM

Who EVER daily drove a Corvette anyway? I bet the majority of Corvette owners don’t use it as their primary car.

Z06 was never intended as a DD. to stiff and low to want to DD. I’m not really a fan of the rear either. Jalopnik had a live question session with the chief engineer yesterday. The answer to the Tao lights was it was always an intension to keep the round tail light but it just didn’t look right with the rest of the car. The motor was supposed to be a 427 to but they were having a hard time meeting performance/reliability/mpg that way…understandably lol.

I think people either love or hate vettes, almost no inbetweeners. I’m a pretty big fan of the C6Zs, but not much else.

Very true. But I think that’s where the latest model (of even the base configuration) is starting to change the way some people think. It’ll be interesting to see the trend vette takes and where it’ll be in 10 years. I gave them a lot of respect for coming out and publicly owning up to what so many people have complained about for the past couple decades (terrible interior, cheap parts, etc).
