I’m still trying to decide which I am going with. The part numbers for the OEM or same basic plugs from NGK are a little confusing, but here is what I came up with.
OEM are VW/Audi versions of the NGK double platinum. They have several part numbers.
Audi part number: 101905611G (available at Audi or ECS)
NGK part number: PFR8S8EG (you can find these on Amazon or Europaparts)
You will also see NGK PFR8S8EG listed as NGK part number: 94460 (this is what ECS has them listed as and they are cheaper than the OEM version, and you can also find these at auto parts stores).
From what I can tell all of the above are the same basic spark plug, but just listed differently at different places.
NGK Iridium like what Jones is using are NGK part number: BKR8EIX but they may also be listed as NGK part number: 2668 (these are also available on Amazon or at most auto parts stores).
Interesting that regular maintenance can knock performance in the stomach like that. The average owner won’t see it. The guys who are on the very leading edge of performance and who constantly evaluate their cars will see it right away. Shows the importance of keeping everything fresh.
We used to talk about this a lot in the B67 forum. New plugs every year, new oil every 5k, new coil packs every 2yrs. That’s one people never do (CP) .
Thanks sir! This helps alot. Ya, I was getting part numbers all over the place too and was trying to make heads and tails of it all.
I ran Iridiums 2 step colder when I was spraying in my fully build Maxima motor, and I liked those plugs. I dropped back to 1 step colder when I pulled the bottle out. I think i’m going to go with the Iridiums pending Jones track appearance.
+1 on the coils, I already have a couple sitting here, might as well get the rest and do them the same time as the plugs also. I haven’t changed my plugs before, I think my car will “wake up” just from that. It stays parked most of the time now since working from home, and I haven’t had much time to give it any TLC. Gotta start doing that.
