longer lens (longer focal length) will compress things front to back. Wider lens (shorter focal length has the opposite effect. Take a picture of someone with a wide angle lens (like 17mm) , and items close to the front of the lens appear huge compared to things farther away. If you take a portrait using a wide lens, their nose looks huge for example, because it’s closest to the lens.
Use a medium focal length (like say 50mm) and everything looks ‘normal’. Use a longer focal length like say 100mm or 200mm and everything compresses. Makes cars look great though, especially on a slight side angle.
