What boost levels do you see from 2000 to 2500 RPM’s?
At WOT, about 1.1 to 1.5 psi. Why do you ask such a small and specific range?
Probably 95-98% of my driving is in that range, going from my house, outside Cincinnati, to HER house in St Louis and back.
This usually happens 1 to 2 times a month. With my .528 6th gear, 2000 rpm is 70 MPH. I am considering JHM’s S/C, and was curious as to how much more load/mileage might be affected.
Would that figure hold true at cruise, as well as WOT?
Thanks for your prompt answer.
“With my .528 6th gear, 2000 rpm is 70 MPH”
awesome. Did I miss you talking about that here somewhere? Did you have to do a rebuild due to synchros and just tossed that in? Diesel gear?
No, no rebuild. I did the same thing with a Jetta I bought in 1980. I was selling through 7 states, and I put the tallest diesel top gear in it that I could find (.71). I figure that my .528 (TDI) will not only get me better mileage, (24-25 in summer) but make this wonderful 4.2 last longer as well.
At cruising speed, it’s negligable boost. -17 to -16 psi I believe (I.e. No boost).
x2 - you run vacuum while cruising. That 0.528 6th sounds great. I would be interested in seeing how it improves mileage on an SCed car.
I will tell you when I finish up my car.
Any of you supercharged guys going to hit the dragstrip?
Other than Axel who has been a few times on bitch tunes.
Can’t wait for the track to open up again.
As for the others, don’t some of you live in climates that still have tracks operating?
The tracks around Washington DC are closed until March.
closed from nov-almost april here I think, boo.
Tracks are closed around here too. Hopefully I can get there in the spring if the schedule cooperates.
I find it incredible that you guys aren’t testing the cars. When I had a stock s4 I couldn’t wait to do before aftr tests after putting a new fuel filter in lol.
If I had a blown v8 I would be geeking out with my pbox hard core. I’m a numbers nerd though.
I don’t have a pbox but if I did, I probably would be playing with it.
You got a pass already dude…you’ve done it all.
I’m trying to shame Maddog and speed etc into it
LOL… No shaming here… If I get a weekend when I do not have a pre-planned family or business event I will be there. Last year was a year of no golf or racing for me so I am going through withdrawal. Only positive about it is I was able to get a reduction in my life insurance since without the racing because I fell into a lower risk pool.
Yea, I hear that. But I was on the neutered tune for a year basically. No one thought the 05.5 would be so much of a pain as it was. Then I pulled the motor and that was a 2-3 month ordeal doing it after work and solo.
Either way, I’ve had the itch to go, just haven’t made it happen.
Curious… somewhat on topic.
For those of you with JHM Launch Assist, what kind of boost are you seeing when holding LA?
Apologies if this has been covered already.
The reason I ask is because I just got my tune and have been trying out my LA. First couple launches were great, a little wheelspin and a hard pull off the line. Last night I was trying to impress a friend with a ride but the car hooked hard, no wheelspin, bogged for a second and then took off. This got me thinking about how much wheelspin SC’d cars get with the boost generated during LA.
Esp off for sure?
I found it worked great in many instances with me alone in the car, with no passengers and with a moderately grippy surface (not grooved concrete though). It worked ok other times. It’s designed to be a safety net and am option. Not the be all and end all.
There’s a reason… It’s designed to be best when you’re on your own because that’s what the car was like when logged tested in development.
