RE: Career Advice

Not even close.

Don’t switch unless you are getting 30% more than you make now.

My salary expectation is around 30% more than my current pay. Curious as to your logic behind that though. My goal since I turned 21 is to increase my income by an average of 15-20% per year until I am 30. Pushing for higher now as I think my salary will start to plateau before then.

you guys…you live under rocks? lol. We’re talking about some of the largest employers in the frigging world. Here are a few us companies. You guys may have heard of them. Not to mention their canadian subs and all of the banks etc.

In the future, maybe try this site…great resource for finding stuff…

Sure joe’s software stuff doesn’t have a DBP. Or bob’s packaging. But to say these pension plans are ‘rare’ or ‘few and far between’ is comical.

Here are some neat facts

[quote]Defined contribution pension plans still account for a tiny minority of all pension assets in Canada even though they have emerged as the dominant pension vehicle in the United States.

A global study of pension assets by consulting firm Towers Watson shows 96 per cent of registered pension assets in Canada are held in defined beit (DB) pension plans, while only 4 per cent are held in defined contribution (DC) plans.

In the U.S., by comparison, just 42 per cent of pension assets were in DB plans in 2014, while 58 per cent were held in DC accounts, the study says.

I’m only looking at a 15-20% increase salary only, but bonus potential is 30 to 40% more than my company…the role is also effectively at a startup woth revenues of 1 to 2 bil a year, with a target of 10 in 5 years vs my company now which is 100m a year…

Not to hijack thread just going through similar, I guess I should have said compare benefits and potential monies 2-5 years down the road as well

Thought I would resume this discussion. Any advice/insights are appreciated. I am a final candidate for a position I really want to land. Got email confirmation today following a month long wait after my face to face with hiring manager (would be direct boss). My next step is a phone call with his direct boss, managing director of the department. Seems a bit backwards and I have a suspicion this is the final cut and mine to win. Any insight on what could be expected during this phone “interview”? I am finding it difficult to project and prepare for what more can be gleened from a 20 minute phone call vs. the hour+ long face to face. Thanks in advance.

Update, todays phone call went well and I am further encouraged at the opportunity and chances of getting a final offer. Said to expect to hear by end of week, if not within a couple days.

Let us know how it turns out.

Will do. Didnt get back to me with final decision. Awaiting patiently if not anxiously…

Got word today I was 1b. Oh well, solid feedback from all involved and I think the possibility exists for future opps.

Ahh sorry to hear it. Good feedback always helps.

I forgot to update on my end, long story short benefits at current company outweighed benefits at new company, and room for growth/promotion was higher as well. Got a promotion abt 1 month after I made the decision to stay, so all worked out.

Good news. Nice when decisions seem to work out. Hopefully its a long term good choice.

I walked through the process head held high even in disappointment so no regrets. Stings a bit to have come so close and not close the deal but I’m not second guessing myself or efforts so that’s a good thing. Gives me hope and motivation to keep seeking out better positions and after this experience the confidence to land the next opportunity.

Next time try knowing the person making the decision. Always helps.

That’s my career advice!
