ill let u know exactly how much the audi one is because ive decided to go aftermarket this year. mine needs updated gps and stuff anyway so might as well go brand new. ill be going with a new alpine unit.
I have an old Android based Dynavin unit. Unfortunately, it runs a really old version of Android which is barely supported anymore app wise so I wanted to get something new with a recent version of Android but Dynavin stopped making Android units and started coming out with their own proprietary OS which I don’t want.
Ultimately, I want a recent Android OS unit with 4G/LTE capabilities. This doesn’t seem to exist so I’m sticking with my old Dynavin.
For a while, I considered trying to incorporate a data enabled Nexus 7 with an aftermarket double din faceplate and all the wiring to integrate into the car and I had most of the parts lined up but I simply got too busy to commit.
I have the updated RNSe. I think it’s excellent for what it does. Sure it’s not touch screen…however the screen also doesn’t look like shit. It’s perfect, and high res and OEM. The music thing is covered with memory cards. It can take 64GB x 2 I believe. I have 32GB cards in there and they’re nowhere near full. We are talking many thousand songs at top MP3 quality, and nowhere near full.
I feel the same way. Except i splurged and bought the AMI for my ipod. An extra 400 bucks.
That’s awesome. Much better for updating. If you’re into new music and stuff that’d be key. I’m into reliving highschool and university music so I’m all good lol.
for me its all about Bluetooth. plus the new gps programs are pretty cool. if I could get something that had LTE and gave u traffic updates and alternate routes to avoid heavy traffic like my phone that would be tits. I like keeping my music on my phone and just jumping in the car and its there ready to play.
im sure lte wont be too far in the future. most 2016 models will have the option of wifi.
My Rnse 2010 already does that. It has traffic and construction alerts.
As saki mentioned, the new RNSE has the traffic alerts and avoiding traffic areas AND as i mentioned i have the AMI that you could upgrade to and you could keep you music on your phone and plug it into the AMI and listen and charge your phone.
Definitely like things with buttons. Much easier to change shit without looking. Another +1 for the 2010+ RNS-e. I also have the AMI unit and it works very well with my iPod with the broken display.
i didn’t know rnse was capable of traffic updates. very cool. I guess u can have it either way, nice oem or nice aftermarket depends on taste.
I took out the stock 2007 RNSe as soon as I could. I found it difficult to use and the sound quality of the stock system is a joke. I am super anal about audio, so it had to go. Having said that, I currently have a pioneer head unit and I am not happy with it. Its odd, because I have various Pioneer head units in my other vehicles and they are great. Problems are poor telephone bluetooth, although audio streaming is fine, and poor radio reception. The installers have fiddled in various ways to improve radio reception, but the unit just doesn’t like the diversity antenna apparently. This doesn’t matter much because I stream my radio from TuneIn app.
The nav is ok, but I like using my phone for nav (it does announce over bluetooth).
If you are looking for a sound quality improvement, changing out stock system is a no brainer. For other features, go to a good audio store (find someone that sells Audison, they will be reputable) and look at the features of the good head units and make a judgement. Try out Alpine, Pioneer, and Parrot (app unit). If you want to upgrade the rest of the system, you can go from there as well.
