RNSE 2010+ Install Help needed

So, I have an RS4 with symphony II+ and I recently bought a 2010+ LED RNSe. 8P unit but with 8E faceplate etc.

I have apparently got BOSE (says BOSE on the speakers)

I installed it and all the DIYs I found including the one posted here by neverfollow said nthat if I had BOSE I would have to move a wire from B5 (Bose wire) to B7 in the blue connector…then I would need to move the C7 wire from the green connector over to the newly vacated B5 slot. Sounds good right…

Well when I pulled out the little B and C connectors, I noticed that my B (blue) didnèt have anything in B5. No brown wire in B5. So I just moved the C7 wire over to B5, and sparked it up. Everything works (although both before and after the C7 to B5 swap, the volume level is off…turning it 2 mm raises volume to very high levels. I assumed this would be because of the need to VAGCOM as the car does not know what head unit is now in there and assumes it is still symphony II+

When I tried to connect vagcom, I got an error on test (failed self test)

specifically…

port status ok

interface found

failed self test

K1 OK

K2 OK

when I select a control module I get a variety of errors and possible reasons, including k line stuck

I assume the swap over caused a problem…I just do not know where to go from here.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

here’s the error image. Same error when I swap the green formerly C7 wire back over to C7.

Can’t see the image.

it’s ok got it working

I guess the k-line wire was not ‘in’ perfectly in the little wire clip harness.

Does TMC actually work like it should?

not sure what that is…traffic updates? Yes. You can see it in the pic I posted if so

i’m most jacked about the 32GB x 2 SD card capacity.

.

Sick stuff, good job. Do you have a pic of your previous head unit?

symphony II+

it was solid. I just missed having nav and sd cards (had rnse in my B7 S4)

no i don’t listen to REM. Just an internet picture.

Bluetooth as well - nice!

yea traffic.
I’m actually curious if it shows more than construction info though. Like actual traffic, not sure if that’s available. I know the B8’s with their Navi’s had it

ok, I follow now. I didn’t realize the ‘non-nav’ RS4’s head unit was called “Symphony II+.” Nice upgrade and you have features the 06’ - 08’ OEM RSNE owners don’t have. Very cool. Enjoy it.

yeah dude, it’s awesome. It’s live.

I was on the 403 (a major highway) and it piped up (speaking) ‘ATTENTION…in 9 km there is a traffic slowdown on this freeway’ or something like that.

Sure enough there was.

yeah, I had RNSe in my S4 but the ipod interface was flat useless…and the SD cards kinda sucked because they were only good up to 4GB (and even then finding 4GB SD cards was hard). This can go up to 32GB per card, so basically my ipod is no longer required. Plus sound quality on SD is better than iPod.

the screen is vastly improved resolution wise, however it’s not a huge deal as it’s not like we’re looking at photos on it.

the unit is overall faster at just about everything. I think that makes sense since it’s a 5 year newer version

Everything is working great except one thing: on my old car when you were navigating to somewhere, if you wanted to hear the next command at any point you just pushed the volume wheel on the steering wheel in, and it would speak the next direction. This also enabled you to easily adjust the nav speak volume at will…just call it up and adjust it while she was talking. Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to be working. When I push the voume wheel on the steering wheel in during route guidance, nothing happens.

Unfortunately I think I’m one of the only RS4 owners with this unit so it’s tough to ask for help.

Saki, you probably already know, but the Audiforum.us I found to be hugely resourceful. They helped me when I took the car to Switzerland and converted the Navi to an EU unit, and then when we brought the car back to US and converted the Navi back.

Interestingly the TMC works in Europe with the EU software but the US software doesn’t have it. :frowning:

I do, that site is amazing for this stuff. It’s hard to believe anyone cares this much about this…but that site does lol

yeah, RNSe 2005 has always had TMC in Europe according to one of the guys there. The new units have it here now fortunately.

p.s. I started a thread there when I had install problems (which I fixed just by re-doing the K-line wire move). It’s the 2nd most recent regular thread (after stickies)
