Amazing Avant you have there!
WOW just wow Gorgeous beast you got there and all the right mods to open up more roar and power!
Hi Olivier, beautiful car you have there and great list of mods.
Looks like we are lucky enough to enjoy the Avant in Europe.
Mind you elaborating what you mean by:
- RS246 mod
- Polished stick airbox?
Thanks
Hi,
So
RS246 mod is the boa duct that come from the front grill to the airbox, and i have taken out the right oil radiator
Polished stock airbox: i have taken flaps out, modified the inlet (rebored the inlet and polished).
That’s it!!
I thought rs246 mod formula was as follows …
1 restrictive / smaller than stock, and with shitty cats milltek $2000 downpipes (because mrc sells them)
2 restrictive stock replica milltek catback exhaust for $2500 (because mrc sells it)
3 mrc remap with zero acceleration testing done by anybody, and you for some reason get to pay extra for “stage 2” if you have an exhaust $1000
4 expensive open element intake that makes your car slower $1000 (because mrc sells it)
5 port and polished stage 2 intake manifold with absolutely fuck all to show you why you should do it. The “proof” is an mrc produced dyno sheet, and the mod is always mixed in with a tune and carbon cleaning. If you ask for an isolated dyno comparison for just the p&p, you’re ignored. But hey… Mrc sells it and their parking lot is always full, so here’s $1000
6 (the big one…) dyno sheet from mrc for you to “prove” your mrc mods work great (priceless)
All in all the standard rs246 mod list gets you about 7 or 8 grand poorer, and the mrc produced dyno sheet makes you feel warm and fuzzy.
Unfortunately you’re likely to get your doors blown off by someone with a $600 JHM tune and free piggies. I only say likely instead of definitely because a race of any sort (pbox dragstrip, pulls) will never happen… Rs246 mrc guys seem to be more allergic to any acceleration testing than the quattrofail guys.
Oh ok!! LOL!!
I only the Airbox RS246 mod… NOTHING ELSE!!
I’m full JHM… :
- Raise the rev limit by 500rpm with no really good reason.
Olivier as I am interested in the airbox mod do you have any pics?
Methodology?
What do you mean rebore and polish the inlet?
Apologies if i sound dump here but i don’t quite get it… Since the airbox is plastic…
I believe he is referring to the intake manifold which is made out of magnesium isn’t it?
Personally I would skip this modification…JHM looked into it for example when they bought a B7 RS4. They did this mod on the B67 S4 and sold tons of them at a pretty penny. The RS4? They left it alone, deeming the gains not worth the time/labour etc.

I’d really have to strongly back up what was said above. While I’ve got nothing bad to say about MRC they’re the only ones talking about gains from parts already proven to be a waste of money. The hard fact is the RS4 already comes well equipped and companies like MRC need to convince customers to buy more products. It appears they’ve created blurring lines in doing that. With no real push for actual performance figures the market over there’s easy pickings for selling parts off a dyno sheet.
ok, there is 2 different things:
The airbox RS246 mod: i have taken out the front flap on it and directly inserted a duct from the front grill to it, while taking out the auxilary oil radiator on the passenger side.

here the auxilary radiator out.

Now, the Modified Manifold intake:
here some more explicite’s ones: http://www.jlosee.com/images/RS4/PDF/silverSPEED%20porting.pdf
Better??
About the manifold intake again:

AFTER:
We have been doing that here for many years. I agree with the over priced hype in the too small exhaust and hot air intakes. I Think the idea is wrap it in carbon fiber and most people think carbon fiber must make things faster.
Stick with what you have and the JHM route you will be more then happy. And its been proven time and time again to be the best mods for the car.
Now everything is clear.
I got confused cause i thought Olivier rebored the airbox.
I agree it does not make sense to go down the path of having a stage 2 IM when ther are more crucila things to be done in my car that carry a higher priority.
