Holy shit that was difficult to watch. Exactly why I’ll never use my car at a road course event again. It was great fun for a weekend, but it’s just not worth the risk to me going forward. Glad to see the driver in that video is okay.
Yup same here. I did a few road courses in the past but you always get those guys who act like there being paid to win or the guys who don’t have a car that should be on any road let alone a road course spilling crap all over the track. It’s fun pushing the car but as you can see in some of the videos the guys on here have posted of themselves at the track you can still be fast and safe.
For me I’ll stick to living a quarter mile at a time.
I would have just swallowed my pride, straightened the wheels and run off the track. At the speed these things occur and the angle of the car, I wouldn’t have bothered trying to recover. Just take the ego hit and roll off safely. I’ve had to do that before and it saved the car. The embarrassing part is that my buddy took a pic of me running off.
after a couple of events you have an idea when the car is going to leave the track. Best thing is not fight it, straighten the wheel and let it go off with both feet in (if its a Manual Gearbox). I went way to fast once and I knew it as soon as it happened. So I went off straight and everything was fine.
Yeah. While I don’t discount that ‘accidents’ happen, most of the experienced folks know what the car is doing.
Just because the car is going to go ‘off’, you still know what’s going to happen since you should still know what will happen next with a certain set of inputs.
If you don’t know what’s going to happen next with a certain set of inputs to your car - then you’ve lost control.
