RS4 oil consumption

I thought the same thing at first, then had to look at a couple pics. I can’t get to photo bucket here at work or I’d post an example, but the only thing I could think of is the tech removed one (or both) of the two lower plates securing the header (you only have to remove the upper set of nuts to get the header loose) just to get them out of the way so he could completely remove the motor mount bracket from the block…

I fully agree.

Great post this that you mentioned and the pcv post are what I was talking about.

You got it! I’m working on a PCV replacement with drastically increased flow capability and it’ll use the factory oil drain (maintenance-free). I’ve got the complex shapes already water-jetted, just need to fab up an aluminum case & baffles and ensure a clean fit. The downside is potentially a little additional oil passing through the intake manifold, but it can’t be more than what’s passing through the valve seals due to excess crankcase pressure… We’ll see how it works…

Very interesting, looking forward to hearing about the results. Thanks for all your insight into this topic so far.

So far I’ve noticed elimination of smoke at high-rpm shifts. Is this because theres no carbon sitting on the intake valves?

I would say the carbon clean was a good thing.

BTW many noticed that the oil level on our RS4s would stay at a half a quart low. Even if you topped it off it would use up a half quart but stay at that level till the next oil change.
