RS4 Supercharger Argument

lol that’s right they took the cat back off.

The 09 issue was the LC. It dropped the clutch at like 5-6K to get that crazy 0-60 time. People were doing it all the time and that would lead to the broken transmission. Part of the way through production (in 09) they removed LC to fix the problem. They added it back in 2011 (I believe) but reduced the rpm and put safe guards in to prevent overheating etc.

As for 12-14 models the inlets and high boost was the only change. Both are included in the SBD700 kit package.

Here is another link to an 09 SBD700 running 10.8@134 on pump no other mods and without the P&P intake manifold:

If you notice his 60’ it’s terrible… Lot more left in that car ET wise…

Edit: What would really be nuts is if the SIR stage 1 turbo upgrade was still available. It was $2500 for the upgraded turbo’s and that would get you into the 9’s.

Before I bought the M I was seriously thinking GTR and I actually got a quote from SBD for a full built 1,000hp GTR (built engine and transmission with labour) $30k! Pretty crazy bang for your buck…

Edit2: I have to stop looking at the market section on GTR life it’s really beginning to get me depressed!

Here’s an 09 with basically the SBD700 kit for the low $50’s
http://www.gtrlife.com/forums/topic/92163-2009-gt-r-premiumredsbd650-50xxx-miles-525k/

Spend another $11k and get a built engine and transmission good for 800wtq

A few extra grand and you can get SIR stage 2 turbos and run deep into the 9’s

thats the ticket… I wouldnt just give up and say the motors can’t take it, too much compression. there is a component failure if a motor is having longevity issues. rings are a fairly common issue, an FI motor and an N/A motor are going to have very different ring designs/specifications from the factory. if its not an obvious failure like a rod that looks like a ? or a obliterated piston from pinging, I’d look at the rings next.

I’d personally skip the compression lowering gaskets, the FI motors seem to be particularly sensitive to the design of the combustion chamber to ensure proper mixing. I’d be concerned that moving the head up without modifying the combustion face of the piston could cause issues with mixing.

Yeah, the RS4 should upgrade to Brembos if it gets a bunch of power.

Oh wait…

That’s kind of what we’re talking about here. Around $30,000 in modifications.

My math was wrong above. $69,000 for a built RS4, stage 3, full exhaust and stage 5R clutch/pp/flywheel.

And it’s an RS4. You can drive it to work. You can take your kids to school. You can go out in a monster snow storm. You can do whatever you want, and your interior is luxurious and comfortable as hell. You won’t be embarrassed to drive it. You wont attract unwanted attention and have every ricer on the street trying to race you. You will just go about your business, and murder any car you come across. Pretty cool.

Frankly that’s the case with stage 2 as well. What car out there is nearly running in the 10s that you see on the street? I mean I know there are 10 second hondas and whatever else, but do you see them on the street, or do you see them in magazines and on trailers?

Yeah, I was considering a GTR (i wanted it so bad when I first heard it’d make it to the US when I was finishing up college).

I still think about it and look at GTR Life (formerly NAGTROC).

While it’s less of a performance beast (though by no means a slouch), I’m happy with the RS5. Beautiful inside and out and packed with lots of tech.

That and I don’t need to recreate a wealth of knowledge outside the Audi scene (finding a good shop in the area, tuners, etc).

Your car is sickeningly perfect. I can’t imagine wanting a GTR more than your Sepang RS5. Going nuclear speed is fun, but it’s not like your RS5 is 0-60 mph in 7 seconds and 15.2 seconds in the quarter mile.

You car is as fast as a Ferrari 360 Modena. It’s ridiculous.

And as we’ve seen now with 3 kits that should migrate their way into the RS5 world, for between $12,000 (JHM) and $20,000 (APR) you can be 2014 GTR fast. That’s hard to argue.

I find the GT-Rs to be extremely overrated. I had a nicely modded one, sold it, and don’t miss it a bit. The car was obviously very fast in a straight line (mine was 650ish whp on a mustang), but other then just was completely uninspiring. Anything 6/10s or under and it was pretty boring, and how often do you honestly drive over 6/10ths on the road. The rs4 is so much more enjoyable to drive, has worlds better fit and finish, and with a s/c would be in a relative league of its own for awd “muscle” sedans.

I agree the RS4 stage 2 or 3 would get you a fast sedan that would be more practical for everyday use than any GTR. However, it won’t out perform the GTR even in stage 3 trim.

Not so sure it won’t outperform the GTR. We’ve already seen it pretty much match the GTR in stage 2 trim (and APR’s 1740 kit trim). I mean if you want to post more videos of stripped GTRs on slicks, I can’t speak to that. But if we want to compare these cars in street trim, let’s do so. It will not be easy for the GTR as you’ve outlined it. I’m not even sure what gas you’re talking about in the GTR. I’m strictly looking at pump gas for the RS4. Should we add the race gas to the mix on the RS4? Remember the JHM car is threatening the 10s on 93 with stock fuelling lol. Want to give it upgraded fuelling, and some octane? You’re looking at it trapping 130 MPH, on street tires. This is stage 2 remember. This is not with carbon fiber trunk and hood and slicks and a gutted interior or anything. This is a 4 door 4 seater RS4 that you can drive to work. Stage 3? Sure, lets give it anothher 100 whp or so. You still don’t think it’s going to match or outperform the GTR???

The JHM stage 3 will either max out the V3 Si or get a bigger blower. The V3 is capable of 1150 CFM. You’re talking about 700 whp there…and if they’re looking to go even bigger?

I think we both feel the same way. I had a few cars I was looking at including the GTR and RS5. I chose the M3 as it was the last chance I would have to own the first and last high revving V8 engine BMW will build.

I do on occasion feel it be cool to have a ridiculously fast GTR but something about the fit, finish, and overall balanced performance of the higher end German cars that out weigh the ridiculousness of the GTR…

A few posts back I made a second edit. In that post I linked a sale on a GTR with basically the complete SBD700 package for $51k. I also, linked a deal where you can get a build engine and transmission for $11k which would be good for 800wtq and much more whp. Last link show a car with similar mods plus a stage 2 turbo upgrades ($3k) and it was pumping out more than 900whp and ran 9.1@145mph. So for about $65-70k it is possible to have a 9 second GTR. That, to me, is insane performance!

“What about me” says the iconic E39 M5 (love these cars)

one of my colleagues had one and he hated it for Canada due to RWD and snow, but he really loved the car the rest of the time.

http://zeckhausen.com/images/Cars/BMW/E39/E39_M5_Jason_Tang.JPG

That’s definitely insane, but again we’re talking about a 1 off super cheap car. An RS4 just sold for $6,500 with a bad motor, that JHM could rebuild and stage 3 for you, if we’re talking about one offs. You’d be looking at $41,000. Got a GTR to match it?

^^my bad. I meant as an M3/4…

I think the E39 was like a 7500 redline. Jspazz used to own one that looked like it was used for supply runs by Syrian Rebels. He would know how high it revs.

I think it’s a great deal and not super common but definitely not one off. I’m sure within the next few months another GTR will be sold at a price point that would get you close, $5-7k, of this setup.

At $41k that would be great value for a 10 second premium sports sedan…

Stage 3 and beyond, the goal is not to be a 10 second car.

:o :o :o :o :o :o :o
;D

only 7000. Dinan took it to 7200, but rod bearings are a constant fear at those piston speeds.

It’s still my winter beater. I drive it all the time and the motor won’t break. I drive the crap out of it. It has 300,000 km on in now. Believe me, it will be a fun winter. Anyone who says rwd sucks for winter has no idea what they are talking about.

Are you guys fucking kidding talking about GTRs? Old models, 2009 and 2010 with tune only have been in the 10s. Don’t kid yourselves.

Trying to find a better picture so you can see what Sakis talking about…it’s true it’s pretty rough lol

Sak I’d race you in it but I think you’d be too embarrassed you’d lose
