RS5 brakes

Yeah, my brother took the pic. He didn’t even realize the brakes were glowing until we pulled the pics from his camera.

Helmet clearance is slightly less than the B8 S4. Yeah, the bottom part of the seat was all the way down.

So what happens when a company decides to use the same disc rotor on both sides of the axle on a high performance car?

You might want to check the rotors on your TTRS as well, Ron. Pretty sure it’s the same deal there.

Basically, the rotor is designed/reinforced to take load in one direction (more material ‘behind’ the pin), but not so much the other. One side cracks, and the other side most likely does not (I only took on side off).

I have an appointment with my dealer so they can take a look at this.

What is the rotor thickness? How many miles are on your car?

It looks like your rotors are worn with grooves dug in and cracks starting to develop around the holes.

Double post

I had the car in for the 15k service in May. I’ll have to check the thickness on the paperwork but it was noted as fine. I’ve done three track days on these (last one was before 15k service). Car has slightly less than 16k miles on it…

The B8 rotors seem to wear down quickly. I remember replacing rotors between 14K-17K miles on S5/S4s because they were below minimum thickness. The pads were between 4-5mm of thickness which isn’t that bad for that mileage since the worn brake pads light comes on just below 4mm (like 3.7-3.8mm to be more specific). If you can find the information that would help a lot.

My mistake. They didn’t notate the rotor thickness, just the pad thickness. The battery on my digital caliper is dead. If I can find a replacement battery, I’ll measure it (ahead of my appointment on Friday).

The stock rotors on my B8 S4 faired much better than these.

Thanks for chiming in, Jimmy. I appreciate it.

So the dealer took care of me and warrantied it. They took good care of me. I have a good dealer.

New rotors on the car.

Directional vanes (so it’s backwards on the right side of the car - front and rear).

Stock rotors weighed in at 22.8 lbs

Thanks for the heads up bud! Just checked and audi cheaper out on the ttrs as well… No hard driving so no issues yet… I’ll whine before warranty is up and get new ones or if I see issues sooner… Just need to keep an eye on them… Glad you have a good dealer also and they did the right thing!

No worries, man! Always try to share and look out for others. ;D

Everyone I see on the race track running these rotors, I will give them a heads up…

Those are seriously light for a big rotor. Neat.

I think our brembo 365mm rotors are 26 or 27 lbs each

The ttrs doesn’t have the wave rotors so I wonder how much they weigh? My 380mm bbk brembos on the s4 weigh 20.2

20?wow

Yeah, that is the rotor weight…

Rotors -20.2
Calipers - 11.0
Carriers, lines, etc - 1.8

Total - 33.0

Wow. That’s really light for a 380mm rotor!

This was from last week. ;D

Still waiting for an official release so hopefully the RS5 crowd will have a good choice soon!

I had brake ducts fabricated last Thursday! ;D

It looks like ECStuning is selling brake rotors for the RS5s now. At least they made left and right rotors.
