Site suggestions, bring them here

I think a DIY section would be great.
Yes I know that there are very in depth ones on AZ but i’m honestly the less time I spend over there the better! ;D

some suggestions after a month of use

  1. can we lighten up the colour a bit? Kills my ‘old’ eyes sometimes.

  2. is there a way to embed videos in the pages? and in other forums?

  3. can we have a section for performance discussions…like dragstrip times etc? (actually that might be better off in each section for each platform having its own so strike that. A sticky would be better).

  4. more members! spread the word to your buddies who like seeing great information on these paltforms. Growing the site (selectively) will be its key to longterm success.

All in all, thanks for putting this site together God et al. It’s an awesome thing, and we all appreciate it, to say the least.

another big one…can we change the image size restriction in the forum?

Currently I think everything is restricted to 480 pixels That’s tiny…and for things like the fastest 1/4 mile list it makes the image illegible.

+1. The shitty screen on my Thinkpad struggles with the site colours when I’m on battery and a dim screen. This is more a limitation of my laptop! But AZ/EA/audiforum.ca are easier to read on older TFT screens. Maybe a choice of templates for each user, although I must admit I haven’t looked in the CP.

The site seems to have attracted some like minded people. I’ve only been active here for the past couple of weeks but I get the feeling traffic is increasing.

I think the site is very good and has attracted some interesting but different features. The 3.0 program is particularly curious, as is the S5 thread. These kind of niche threads is what makes this site unique.

Saki - re the 1/4 mile table, maybe a Google Docs link would be more suitable? Or is the simplicity of a JPG preferred? I don’t mind “hosting” a Google Doc which would be publicly viewable which you would be free to edit.

yeah, a big image is a lot easier. Google docs is nice though. Just a bit of a pain sometimes. A big picture right in the thread works great.

Post the times pic as an attachment then it’ll open up full size in a separate browser window if the pic is wider then the forum set width

wouldn’t it be easier to change the image size for the forum? Attachments aren’t so effective, and choke down bandwidth for the site. Externally hosted, linked images are ‘free’. And are better for threads.

I think there should be a sticky for each platform for all technical literature; Self Study Guides, TSB’s, Recalls etc. This would make searching a breaze having all of the pertinent technical info in one spot at the top of each platform page which would also make it relavent to that platform.

We could even have sub categories for each section of the car - for example “exhaust.” We could have exploded views of the stock exhaust then pictures from vendors or members of their aftermarket/modified exhausts for comparison and discussion etc.

^^^great idea.

If you start a thread and upload the Self Study Guide, maybe God will sticky it. We can edit the title or have a mod edit the title later or something. I made a suggestion about the official dragstrip thread for B6/7 S4, started the thread, and before the day was up it was stickied.

I think beemercer posted a link to all of the B6/7 S4 TSBs (ever…there were like 30 of them). Maybe he’ll re-link that for us, and the same for RS4, A4 3.0 and S5 (the other subforums that have some action on them right now).

I’ll do it now - quick noob question, how do I upload a PDF doc? It’s not the same as a pic or vid…I’m having a hard time getting it to work.

Thanks guys. New stuff is on its way. Per request the top two things.

1 forum templates you guys can now switch to a new template to test to see if it makes for easier reading. I have opened up and coded in the ability for members to select there own template.

here is how you do this.

Go to forums. Then click on your profile and select the
Look and Layout Preferences option in your profile.

Then select
Current Theme: Forum or Board Default (change)

Select the Babylon Theme option as that one should have no bugs. Feel free to give color suggestions as needed. Obviously the green theme is there to stand out and give the video watcher a better backdrop to enjoy videos. While I continue to work on making the board more easy on the eyes that theme should work great.

2 the 1/4 mile list will be created for you guys to modify properly. sakimano will be given full control of this unless otherwise noted that he is not interested.

3 the other suggestions are getting looked into as we speak.

As a side note. The website is a custom site. To get the video and forum to work together takes a lot of work. Every change we make effects one or the other. I know we don’t have embedded video yet but its in the works. As well. Keep the suggestions coming and Ill keep working to create a better site for you guys.

Thanks again guys.
Best

that’s awesome. I just tried it…there are half a dozen you can try really easily. Babylon has some blue and grey and white.

One other thing I was wondering…is there a way to set the number of posts per page? It’s usually 40 on most forums, 10 or 20 on others. I think one even let me set it to 100 posts per page. I just couldn’t find a way to adjust it on here. 40 works well.

Great news on being able to use a lighter theme.

I remember from my days of tinkering with forum software, any sort of integration is difficult so I feel your pain! Great job, this forum has one of the best multimedia upload options.

Can you make a larger notificiation, or something that stands out more when you receive a new message? The text is really tiny and new messages can be easily overlooked.

Pop up?

I get emails too.

I think Gamebreaker just means not so much other txt. I often get them and overlook the post if it’s a small post etc. I would also like less txt about unsubscribing etc and just being able to see the main message. Could “unsubscribe” & “view” just be a hyperlink rather then everything else that is included?

Also if someone “quotes” something in a new post, the email doesn’t do anything to separate their post from the quoted portion. I know other forums manage to do this so it might be nice to incorporate rather then all being the same.

Example of current email:

If it could be simplified to:

I’ve seen a few videos from this guy and he does have talent, but I am more impressed with Casey Stoner doing this during a MotoGP race. He’s the only one that I have seen take this risk regularly. Not even the legendary Valentino Rossi will take the chance during a race…

the forum is SMF, not VB, so you won’t be able to replicate the VB forum interface.

And it looks like gamebreaker is talking about private messages isn’t he? I bet a Coke he is.

^ahh, I think you’re right. No dice on that bet.

I don’t know anything about SMF vs VB for forum construction, so I’m at a loss there. But I subscribe to most of the threads I post in on this site since it’s a little smaller as of now. But my only gripe with the emails is I have to carefully read through to make sure I see the message. With how much I’m on my phone, I would really appreciate significantly less txt and just the post info and link to said post.

Even something like “************” at the top and bottom of the new post may be enough to really help.

Also, I just checked, it does show “quote” if a new message includes a quote, but doesn’t show you where the quote ends.

Not really a suggestion, but a question saved starting a new thread.

The time and date that is under your user name at the top of the page, what city is that time for?

I have figured it is slightly inland of LA since it is an hour ahead.

EDIT - I changed the time to my location, but would still like to know what city the default time is set to?

Hey God

A suggestion would be - to be able view AR vids on iPhones.

Cheers
