Some Guy's Mediocre S4 Build Thread

So I ended up pulling the codes from ABS as well as the engine this afternoon.

That wheel speed sensor was replaced about a week or two ago so I know it’s not the actual sensor.
The G85 sensor error is new, never seen it around before.
Both faults are intermittent which makes sense because the issue itself it intermittent.

Here are the engine fault codes.

Engine mount codes started showing up about a month ago. Replacing the mounts and resistors here in a bit so that should take care of that.
I have a JHM Tune and I would think the tune would suppress those O2 sensor codes but I guess it isn’t? Curious, Might have to buy some spark plug defoulers to fix that.
The other two seem to be identical faults to the ones that showed up in the ABS scan

After all that, I did an output test with the ABS and nothing really came up but because the ignition was left on for that long, this code showed up in the fault code scan again after I had cleared it 5 minutes prior and not even started the car or anything.

Just realized that the 18010 01826 fault codes were probably due to the fact that I replaced the battery this weekend and I needed to reset the steering angle sensor adaptation. So it probably isn’t due to the ABS issue. I’ll drive around some more today and tomorrow and rescan the car.

Or that might not be the case and it’s a faulty alternator I have or something that’s causing both issues but I’m inclined to say that isn’t the case. I suppose I can check the alternator health tomorrow oro something with my battery charger.

Oh boy! It’s like Christmas all over again! Look what Santa brought me!

I ended up delaying the motor pull by a week. Hoping to start it this weekend. All I need now are JHM cam adjusters and the timing tools.

ohh that looks like tons of fun! I love it when new parts come in lol

XD That was exactly how I reacted when I heard the doorbell ring this morning.

You and me bud, you and me lol I swear it’s an incurable state of mind. I love this thing and how much pleasure I get out of driving it, mind you I’m not even talking about spirited driving here.

On my lunch break right now but here’s where I’m at. I removed the catback, front bumper and radiator support. I just finished disconnecting all the plumbing necessary to pull the engine (in the picture the a/c lines are still connected). I guess I’ll try and unplug all the wiring this afternoon but the actual pulling of the engine and tranny will have to wait until tomorrow because all my friends are busy and no one can help me with it :’(

But I’m happy with my progress ;D

Another quick update before tomorrow

Off to a great start.

Well it’s like 3:00 here and about 100 degrees so I don’t want to spend any more time in the garage until it dips below 85 again. Here’s where I’m at.

Pulled the motor and tranny

Separated the two

Admired this emptiness

Then removed the electrical harness, the coolant hardline, the SAI things on the back of the motor (EC somethings ECG’s?), the clutch and flywheel, and finally the exhaust manifolds which I’m now realizing that I didn’t need to do. Oh well

Next up is to clean the whole block with some brakleen and then pull off the valve covers for powder coating and then take of the intake manifold and separate the top to get that powder-coated as well. Tomorrow, I’ll try asnd take the parts to get powder-coated and I’ll also try and wrap the bottom and sides of the intake manifold in some heat shielding as well as the throttle-body, just like what JimmyBones did. I’ll also probably to the valley pan gaskets and check valve service tomorrow as well.

Oh and by the way, HUGE thanks to Eric, B6_4.2 for driving over to my place to help me pull the thing out of the car. Couldn’t have done it without him

Hmm lots of parts on that table, yet it looks like Jake forgot to package up a supercharger for you. I would send him a nice e-mail I’m sure he can get that shipped out to you.

I definitely will

Thanks for lending me that hose clamp tool and the picks. They’ve been so incredibly useful!

Cleaned the whole back of the motor and removed my intake manifold to separate for powder-coating. Surprisingly, my valley-pan was that clean already. I haven’t touched it yet

Not a problem! that remote hose clamp tool has saved me quite a few times.

Ladies love Remote hose clamp pliers.

I bet you carry it around with you in your pocket all the time just to pick up chicks

Have you done, or are you doing the check valves/valley pan gasket?

Amazing progress, I take my hat off to you sir. I don’t think I am brave enough to attempt the timing service myself.

Thanks man! I appreciate it. We’ll see if I get around to doing the check valve/ valley pan gasket service today. I probably will but it just depends on my motivation

Good progress!

I could have sworn I included that supercharger kit

Thanks! Although I’m a tad miffed about my lack of boost
