Stock Clutch might be on its way out

I think my stock clutch is on its last legs (its held up for 100k, so i’m pretty impressed); i can’t really explain all the symptoms because they happen intermittently and inconsistently, but they are reminiscent of what happened in my ford focus years ago right before that clutch died.

Anyway, I have my eyes on the JHM stage 4 kit (lwfw, kevlar, the whole 9 yards…) but this thread has me wondering…

it doesn’t seem like the issue is with the clutch, but i don’t want it to crap out on me.

thoughts? opinions? sandwiches? speaking of sandwiches, its almost lunch time…

I think you have to look at the fact that JHM has sold thousands of these clutches, and you’re looking at a thread with 3 guys who had a problem to make your decision tough. Oddly you missed this thread:

Back to the thread you linked: Did any of those guys’ clutches actually “crap out”? or did their 75,000 to 150,000 mile old cars’ hardware supporting the clutch crap out? Did you miss the part in that thread where speedEtc’s car with literally 150,000 miles on it just needed some of the supporting parts replaced…and his clutch/flywheel were just fine?

You have a few options. Clutchmasters, southbend, etc. All of them have plenty of ‘my clutch died’ threads. In those situations it was actually the clutches that died (unlike the thread you referenced where the JHM hardware held up solidly, and it was other parts/installation that caused problems).

Hey btroop, I started that thread and I can tell you the problem isn’t with the clutch/flywheel itself. Right now, it’s been narrowed down to master cylinder or release bearing. The clutch and flywheel combo is actually working phenomenally great.

I was serious about that poll…does someone want to start that on audizine so we can see what people’s experience’s have really been with the JHM clutch/flywheel? would be interesting to finally get an accurate depiction and put this ‘all these failures’ talk to rest.
