inline 6s are a great motor and take FI quite well (skyline, supra) but theres nothing like the sound of a small block v8 at 8grand. for me theres no reason to have any other number of cylinders than 8. u can make 200 to 2000hp with 8 cylinders.
I almost bought a B8 when I was looking for my RS but I had to have 8 cyls. I wanted to have the supercharger sure but now I can add my own.
that news is great news and ensures I will keep buying audis far into the future.
Yea he’s up there. I think Chris wins the Dbag award though. That being said, one of my favorite Audi reviews was on the smoking tire when Matt had someone filling in for him, can’t view at work but I think this is it…
So happy that Audi should be staying with a V8 in the new RS cars. I think a RS5 with 480-490 horsepower V8 should be just fine since they don’t typically go overboard like Mercedes does. Ideally it would be a V8TT to up the gas mileage/lower C02 emissions but they could always put the cylinder deactivation technology from the 4.0TT in the RS5 4.2. That would require a valved exhaust to keep the noise down while cruising which would keep the older buyers happy too.
BMW can get away with the straight six cylinder engines because they have been doing it forever and that is what they are known for. I agree that it is not very exciting but I would trust one of their straight sixes over one of their V8s. It could also be that I am biased from owning a Nikasil 4.0 liter E32 740iL and occasionally working on their newer V8s for friends.
That R8 V10+ is one of my favorite reviews too. Mostly because it isn’t Chris Harris doing the review. His APR stage 3 TT-RS review was a good example of how annoying he can be.
Matt has to wear those sunglasses, they are sponsored by the company, haha.
They definitely have to add some mpg improving tech to stay competitive. I would like to see them stick with the 4.2, but I can’t see how they can get that much more hp out of it without increasing displacement or going FI.
The guy Zack sounds like us a lot. “you don’t drive around shouting tour spec’d out the window” and his comment that “if you don’t think this is enough torque you spend too much time on forums”
The other 135 vs rs3 review is the dumbest thing ever. This is where you realise Chris Harris is completely useless. He basically reviews cars for drifting, nothing else.
The rs3 looks a mile better
The rs3 is faster in a straight line
The rs3 is considerably faster on a track
The rs3 interior is better
How you can say the BMW is “better” because the rs3 has some built in understeer vs drift happy 135 oversteer, I will never know.
FAAACK!! I hate Matt and his doucheee goatee… I would like to see Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May in some viral video of them kicking the shit out of him. Oh well…
I like Matt Farrah. He’s no douche. Not in the least. Anyone know his forum name? He used to have a B6 S4 for a while.
The reviews where he is basically paid to say VF engineering is great, or APR is great are nauseating, and definitely hurt their credibility. Lots of ‘THIS THING IS FAST!’ Great. It’s a fucking RS4, so yes it’s fast. But adding a VF kit does fuck all. But that’s business. They do lots of those ‘reviews’ where they just glow about a tuner car.
Matt Farah had an S5 for a bit too I believe. He’s grown on me. Chris Harris’ vids are great production wise, but like has been mentioned, very drift oriented. I was impressed when he called out Ferrari on their press test cars though. Even if he did eventually buy a 599 so he could review the cars again after being banned.
