have heat shields, haven’t actually looked at exhaust manifold
X2 on what Komesh just said,
Build 10/02 with heat shields, assuming I have tiny manis lol
Oh O, that doesn’t sound good, at least you do the “JHM Mod” to them
anyone ask the parts counter how much for good manifolds?
anyone get the part numbers for good vs. bad?
get them for me and I’ll ask my parts guy to do some digging. He’s a forum junkie and will help if he can.
I have no idea how much the good ones cost.
Here are the part numbers. Good (06C 253 031 H) Bad (08C 253 033 J), That would be great if you could get some more info for us.
Cheers
I like where this is going…
Saki - I got the PN for the bad manifolds wrong it is actually 06C 253 033 J
I searched the PN on GAP and nothing came up for the bad ones, but when I search the good manifolds it told me that it had been superseded by 06C253031J (I think it means bad manifolds) and cost $401
There is some good manifolds for sale on ebay

I asked my friend Neil Brands at Owasco Audi to look at this thread. Here’s what he said:
I checked this in ETKA and they only show 1 part # I checked the data history and nothing came up for any older versions the parts # I have are
Left 06C-253-032J
Right 06C-253-031J
I did find the 06C-253-031H the one they are saying is a good part # but this is not available for the North American market
So…no idea what that’s all about regarding the unavailability of the ‘good’ ones. Wouldn’t be the first time ETKA was wrong but maybe Audi just replaces old ones with the new choked ones
I asked him 'are you saying you can’t even order the ‘good’ ones, and he said 'correct…I can only order North American parts. He also checked the 3.0 A6 exhaust manifolds on ETKA and they were the ones he noted above, with no availability for the ‘good’ ones.
Smacks of VW/Audi’s usual trickery with raiding random parts bins to ensure nothing goes to waste. I’ve read of such things in the mk1/2 VW world.
I wonder from which line these “good” manifolds came from? Either way, great finds lout.
Thanks Bangoman - My thinking is that Audi decided that since the good design worked very well on the B5 S4 that they would continue to use it, then then realized that it was to expensive to produce the good ones for just an A4 and that’s why you see the return of the good ones on the B6 S4
