Thought on vinyl wrap?

Not the same thing but along the same lines…

I priced out the cost of getting the entire car clearbra’d and that was gonna be about $4k, materials, labor, 8.25% tax.

Full Hood/Fender/Side Mirrors: $820
Rockers/Side Skirts/Wheel Impact Areas: $475
Headlights/Foglights: $60
Front Bumper/Grille: $235
Full Vehicle Coverage: $3,950

is that avant with the red wheels aviator grey glossy? Looks neat.

^^ Hexis, traffic grey. I thought it looked pretty good also.

glossy I’ve never seen with a wrap. Pretty cool.

There’s a beautiful white RS4 Avant on RS246 that I didn’t even know was wrapped when the guy posted photos.

Yeah, the glossy is why vinyl sparked my interest. I’m a little stand-offish with the matte but still nice.

I’ll check with some local shops, 4k for a wrap might make it less appealing, 2k all said and done is reasonable.

I think 1500-2000 sounds right. Is that what places charge?

I thought I heard it was around $750 parts, $750 labour.

I’m guessing on the 2k based on what I’ve heard, nothing difinitive though.

No way.

My venture shield clearbra full hood, front fenders, front bumper, mirrors, and trunk lip cost $2k installed. also, I’ve heard that it’s a pain to keep a wrap looking nice and clean as it doesn’t have a clear coat to protect it.

I prefer doing a professional plasti-dip over wraps.

  • Plasti dip protects your paint better
  • Cheaper material costs
  • Any color can be achieved using tints.
  • Less labor intensive to apply

Once you have a base coat of plasti-dip it takes less product to do a color change, you don’t have to remove the base coat to change the color. Rocking multiple colors a year is easily doable and cost affect with plasti-dip.

$500-700.00 per entire car.

I have been dipping cars DIY for some 2 years now. And am looking for a shop in Seattle area to do it full time. www.dippedmyride.com is my little starting website, www.dipyourcar.com is spearheading the entire thing and where it all started and providing DIY community with easily obtainable colors, research and tools.

It takes about an hour to pull off the dip from a full car. You can drop your car off in the morning and pick it up in the afternoon with a new color.

They have metal flake, glossifiers, and all sorts of cool colors. Nothing new, I am sure you have heard of it on AZ.

I prefer rhinoliner

No way what? we’re talking about vinyl wrapping a car, not venture shielding a car.

lol

this says ‘out of the way’

The guy does both and charges the same price I think it was $3.5-4k if I remember correctly.

For a decent wrap at a decent shop you’d be in all of $3-4K, if not much more…this was a couple years ago when I looked.

Maybe with dipping on the scene, the wrapping costs are coming down, but dipping isn’t ever going to be as nice a finish as wrapped,

I’m very familiar with the dipyourcar crew, Fonzie set up shop several bays down from USP Motorsports. I’ve seen the results and haven’t seen anything overly impressive other than the cost.

Good point regarding the maintenance and overall appearance longer term for vinyl.

I may dip my shitbox car this year, just for fun since it’s cheap. There’s damage but I’d just repair, then prime the damaged sections, wetsand, then dip.

FWIW jupiter, you could just dip your car the colour you want first, see what you think, then get it wrapped if you like it. It’s so cheap. And if you’re going to see more track rash (lol) it’s not a bad idea. Most track cars aren’t that pretty anyway, at least not the fast ones…

What I’m thinking…
