Who knows some technical suspension stuff to help me out here...

While you can’t adjust them, why not just go with a shock/spring setup? If you have no plans of changing the height, you can probably get a good pair for less than what you’d pay for coilovers or OEM parts. I got the Vogtland Jr suspension kit and have enjoyed it greatly. I wish I had a stiffer rear sway bar to go with it, but it’s been great otherwise. Since there is no height adjustment, you don’t have to worry about if both sides are at the same level either.

Does anyone know what the difference is from the GT1 vogtlands from achtuning and the ones from JHM? the pictures look different so I am assuming JHM vogtlands are not GT1s?

Well judging by the pictures alone, the difference is in the rear. The ones from Achtuning have the springs in the stock location. The ones from JHM have the spring over the shock like a conventional coilover design.

Not sure which is better. I would assume the ones where the spring is mounted on the shock are better since that’s the style that all of the high end systems use. Will you ever notice? Doubt it.

Can you even get traditional “coil over” for the rear that don’t use the stock spring location? It could very well be just a matter of stock photos for the different systems. I bring it up because in my mk iv Jetta days, even the higher end more expensive kits, the rear coil was independat from the damper. I had pss9’s for reference. They were separate in the rear. And had konis on our mk iv golf. Same thing, separate coil in stock location for rear.

They look completely different to me, one set is painted, and they have different color springs. the GT1’s have adjustable dampening don’t they?

Happy, yes the 3.0 doesn’t use a traditional coilover in the rear.

Factory set to match spring rates. You’re going to be hard pressed to find adjustable dampening for under a grand. You’ll need to be looking at the likes of pss9 and kw v2/3 for that option.

And which look different? The pictures from achtuning and jhm of the “same” kit? I again think its just a poor stock photo that isn’t representative of the actual product.

I’m sure Jake or dru will chime in to clarify.

VGT 968309
or GT1 “custom” spring rates ie stiffer

In the JHM photo the shock and strut are the same color of metal without any paint and they are brighter red color on the springs, the ach tuning photo they look purple and the shock with the fork looking thing on the end the one thats on the top in the jhm photo doens’t look anything like the other one in the ach tuning photo its black. Also I read that the Stasis street sports are discontinued so I dont think they are even an option because those are the ones I was likely going to get because I’m not sure if I can swing the ohlins because I want front BBK too soon after or at the same time.
Hopefully JHM can chime and and verify what model it is they sell.

They will. Or just call em up. I think their (jhm) may be incorrect looking at the setup. It is a true coil over and the double cylinder attachment points of the non forked damper does not appear correct for your car model/gen

Yea i think the photo is generic because JHM used it in both kits they used to sell the Vog’s that were dampening adjustable and the ones that weren’t.

Fwiw, I have a set of pss9 and h&r on either b5. Yes b5. The pss9 are light years ahead of the h&r. I have had zero issue with both sets of pss9 I’ve had on two different platforms. They have a lifetime warranty too I believe. When I say better, I mean more comfortable if set to softer setting almost float and tighter but not harsh when set to stiffer setting. My h&r are too bouncy and harsh for my taste when comparing the two. There’s really no comparison IMO. And both my cars are fairly conservative ride height. Lowered, yes, but not slammed and stanced.

Springs look like the same color. Just poor lighting in the Achtuning picture.

So I got a quote from Euro Collective for the KW Street Comfort for 1550 shipped for a sale they are having right now.
I did some digging through google trying to find a place that still has the STasis Street sports in stock and found them at this place called supreme power that doesn’t say they are out of stock so i assume they still have a set laying around somewhere, so that kit is $1139 plus shipping I think. My only other option I’d be willing to go with is the Bilstien PSS9 from JHM, or ST onlins which I don’t see really doing all that much more for my car than PSS9’s or the street comforts can do. That extra money can go towards BBK which I really want because once I put coils on and my BBS’s the stock brakes look TINY as hell in my 19" wheels and it looks pathetic.

I’d go for the kw street comforts. Seems like a decent price.

Lol I hear ya. My brakes look the same way on my car. Wheels are only 18" but they show so much of the brake. So much money for a mod that doesn’t really do much though.

Def call supreme power before ordering. They have issue updating their website at times. I bought a neuspeed titanium cat back years ago. While the price was still good, they didn’t honor the bottom basement price advertised on their website. Told me the site needed to be updated.

Those kw street comfort look pretty interesting. The stasis street sport will not be nearly on par with the pss9 IMO. The ohlins sure, but not the street sports. Also fwiw, and I understand different platform/Gen but many b5 a4 folks prefer the s4 pss9 kit over the a4. Something to look into maybe. I think, at least for the b5, the pss9 spring rates are beefier. Guys complained about the a4 kit feeling too soft, but the s4 kit fit the bill.

I did not like my Stasis CO’s, I had the Track Sports, they were horribly unforgiving, the dampening sucked. My $.02

Looking closely at the KW V1, V2 and V3’s. From what I can gather, the Street Comfort’s are essentially the V2’s (adjustable rebound) with a spring rate closer to the V1’s. The V3’s seem more suited for track than street use with the stiffer springs and more adjust ability. I guess the only trick is to find a good rebound setting wonder if that’s gonna be easy. I guess this is the best choice, they do also offer lifetime warranty to the original purchaser. So whoever was reccomending the KW V line this seems like the best way to go if my deduction is correct.

So I’ve had some things slow me up on this cars been in the body shop for some detailing and shark fin install and some other things. But I’ve continued to research my coil setup and I’ve narrowed it down to 4 setups. These are them and their prices as I’ve found quite a few places that sell what I’m looking for cheaper which obviously affects price which I didn’t really want to spend over 1500 as i have other parts I’m buying right now too, but some of the coils I’m looking at cost close to 2k like the KW’s but are on sale for less. So we have…

Koni coils, same as Stasis street sports just without present dampening and that helper bearing that makes adjustment easier these are on sale at Europa for 1123$ shipped

http://www.europaparts.com/koni-coilover-kit-1150-5061.html

Vogtlands non adjustable dampening from JHM for 989$ plus shipping unless I go pick them up which I might because I think my tune needs to be updated

Vogtlands with adjustable dampening that Koni provides these must be a new line for the vogtlands the springs are actually orange which I’ve never seen, I saw one thread of a guy putting them on his A3 on audizine. They are running 1200$ shipped from here…

http://www.drivtechonline.com/Vogtland_A4_S4_B6_B7_Damping_Adjustable_Coilover_p/vol-a4-fslash-s4-968602.htm

And finally KW Street comforts which are a modification of KW V2’s with different springs, and the only set of all these running linear springs all the way around, the vogts run linear rear and progressive up front I think. These I’ve found from sonic tuning on sale right now for 1489 shipped.

Now the KW seem to be the highest end of these and I’ve contacted KW awaiting response back to see if powder coating them would void the warranty at all and I’d need to check with vogtland as well for the adjustable because I don’t want orange coils, the only 2 I wouldn’t change are the JHM’s and koni’s. Although KW seems to be the best ones here I don’t want to leave out the vogs or koni’s I know those are great setups and whats good enough is good enough like the dude above said and would free up money for other stuff I have on my list. But I don’t want to end up with something I’m not happy with. So what are your guy’s thoughts here? TIA

EDIT- Am I going to need adjustable control arms ??? to keep tires from wearing, the pirellis I’m going to forever be running are not exactly cheap. I want them to wear properly.

So on Monday I think I’m going to pull the trigger on these unless I hear any major objections I’m making a mistake. I’ll be going with the Koni’s and I’m in the process of researching the "optimal settings stassis set it at to start with for the dampening and height. They seem like they will be comfortable enough from all the reviews I’ve read that they are almost identical to the vogs except the vogs from what I read are a bit more flat and a tiny bit tighter in corners but is only noticeable if you jumped from one car to another. especially considering the vogs use koni dampening. And they are the only set I don’t need to have powder coated to change some odd yellow or orange color. I already will be paying enough to powder coat my USP wheels since they are off the car for summer. Don’t really wanna add any more charges on that end.

EDIT- After digging for awhile I found the optimal settings from STASIS figured post them up just for future info if anyone ever needed them.

25.25 to 25.5 inch is probably the best setting for actual handling. after that, you are outside the parameters the suspension. was designed to work best. Stasis had these recommended heights listed in their performance alignment section.

Conservative Street Setup
Between 1/16 and 1/32 TOE IN front and 1/32 TOE IN rear
Ride height at 25.875” front and 26.000” rear
(–1.0 camber front)

Aggressive Street Setup
Between 1/32 and 0 TOE IN on all four corners
Ride height at 25.500” front and 25.625” rear
(–1.5 to –1.75 camber front)

Track Setup
Between 0 and 1/16 TOE OUT on all four corners
Ride height at 25.000” front and 25.250” rear
(–2.0 to –3.0 camber front)

So I have cold feet on the konis. I have a line on a better setup so fingers crossed i’ll have some goodies posted up here soon. in my build thread. Stupid holiday i could be buying them today!
