Would scoring create excessive blow-by or do you just find it burns that bit more oil?

Can see it’s had a timing issue in the past as they aren’t clean hit marks and non of the valves are damaged in the heads.

Anyone still reckon it’s worth putting back together with jhm bolt on mods?

Going back to what you mentioned. It looks like about every 1000 miles the car goes through a quart of oil. Thats not too bad and about normal for high mileage S4s. Did you ever grab compression numbers. It looks like the 4-8 bank might have warped a little and thats not abnormal. The scoreing can cause more blow by and more oil consumption from the PCV into the intake. to me I didnt see anything that looks too different then what other people have seen. As long as the compression numbers were ok I would put it back together making sure the PCV system was cleaned and ready to go.

From what we have seen the valve covers get blown out due to the extra blow by keeping too much motor pressure in the valve cover area. So make sure to use some extra caution in the lower area of the valve covers. Some people add a small amount of liquid gasket to the mix to help keep the valve cover sealed.

I did compression last year and got 8.5 bar across all cylinders. The thing that bothers me is that I want to keep the car but I want a strong motor with jhm mods.

Justin, could you explain to me how you diagnose a warped block please?

Would probably need to remove heads for that which would make it quite a task… I’ll let someone with more knowledge answer this.
