07 Misano build

I figured I would take some time and post a build thread on my new car. I came from a gt30 built motor TT, then an 04 S4, now finally the car of my dreams an 07 Misano red RS4. I picked the car up about a month ago with 103k on it and it’s squeaky clean. The PO really took good care of it so the mileage didnt bother me one bit. I started with a carbon cleaning and it made the car feel completely different. A week after that I went for the JHM tune locally and ordered a JHM non res cat back and shifter trio. I’m still waiting on the exhaust but I gutted my pre cats when I did the shifter trio. I haven’t worked this hard since I tackled the timing chain job on my S4! Getting the down pipes out was a chore. I manage a body shop for a living so having a key to get in on the weekend and having a lift is a plus. I love this car like nothing else. It makes my 20 min commute to work so much fun now I purposely take the long twisty way. Future plans are jhm 5r clutch and flywheel, lightweight crank pulley, 034 mounts all around and eventually downpipes before I supercharge. And yes I plan to do a leak down and compression test before making that move. I also plan to get a spare used engine to mothball in the event of a big issue. This is not a car I plan to part with. First I have to sell off the s4 and get something new for my wife before I’m single. A few pics of the car and the progress. I’ll be back to update as I go.

Looks clean, love the red. Congrats on the new build. What are the next round of mods you are planning?

Always liked Misano red! Can’t wait to see the progress of your build and carbon parts

Mounts first. Clutch, downpipes, blower. And exterior mods along the way

Is the clutch bad already?

I love my JHM exhaust. I have downpipes with HFC and the resonated catback. It sounds epic. It’s a good bit of volume without being obnoxious, and it made my car about 20hp stronger.

Piggies + JHM catback is a great way to go. Or full downipes + JHM catback.

All the other exhausts have some pretty major negatives. JHM got it right.

diameter - most of the other options are 2.50", which is marginally different to stock, so what’s the point. JHM went full 2.75" from the start.

design - most of the other options either have no crossover section or if they do, it’s an H pipe for sound only. JHM did it right with the X pipe, in a great location, and with gentle bends encouraging velocity rather than a stifling restriction like the others. Further, the bends in the JHM exhaust are very well designed, nice and gradual.

quality - top quality stainless, and it looks excellent after 6 years (mine was the original JHM prototype that I bought used).

tips - oval tips like stock (bigger though) look great and fit the ‘RS’ aesthetic

The others didn’t seem to do their homework. Shit quality, poor design, poor diamter choice, restrictive or non-existent crossover…I don’t know why anyone spends $2000-5000 on them other than to be different. They all sound good for the most part, but 80% of that is a testament to Audi’s engine. It’s hard to make an RS4 sound bad.

Here’s a good playlist for the JHM case anyway.

I had the fast intentions non res with Texturk down pipes on my b6 s4. Pulling it off to re sell now. I’m hoping the rs4 sounds just as good. The clutch sticks at high rpm. But since I plan to do forced induction eventually I’ll do the clutch and flywheel now to get it out of the way.

How much are you going to sell them for and would you be willing to ship to Canada?

You can PM me so that I don’t side-track your thread if you want to entertain the possibility of a Canadian buyer. If you prefer to stay local however, I totally understand.

Cool welcome and glad you made it over here! Are you going to any shows soon? Dubs on the boards is in Atlantic city on Sept 13th.

I don’t do vw shows. I hate douche bag kids that tend to dominate that whole scene. Sorry but I’m 36 and earned what I have. I wouldn’t last but a few hours at h2o or waterfest. Cars and coffee, rs specific get togethers and highway runs I would be into for sure.

Hahaha I went to waterfest once. Never again.

You’ll fit in perfect here…lol

I know it’s a drive but C&C in Bethlehem is amazing. It goes once a month.

Bethlehem is about an hour south of where I am. I plan to attend in october for the vw themed one unless there is an audi group at all of them?

Thats a great combo and the RS4 exhaust from JHM for the RS4 is incredible as you can hear from the video sakimano posted

LOL you will fit in perfict here. Welcome again

Not really a huge Audi group. Always a few R8s, saw a TTRS a couple times and a few B8 S4s. Most of the VW/Audi guys in this area are all about that ‘stance’ if you catch my drift. I’m not going to say that some cars don’t look good, but sometimes it’s just too much and they are trying way too hard.

I like it because it’s a great mix of cars and the location is pretty nice. Usually a few hundred cars show up…ranging from exotics, classics, muscle, ratrods…really anything you can think of and it’s great for any car guy.

the rs4 sounds 9 times better according to me. A far more complicated exhaust note, and screaming to 8000+ rpm is fantastic

My previous car was a B7 S4 with custom JHM catless downpipes and JHM/Fast Intentions Resonated catback exhaust.

hahahaha that was awesome

Send me a pm. I’ll ship to canada. Make a fair offer

JHM catback finally got here today. I guess we had a minor mix up and I did not get adapters for my piggies to fit the system. A quick trip to the local exhaust shop and I got a temporary fix until the adapters get here. I am really not happy that my mpg has gone down so much. I guess it’s from constantly having my foot to the floor to hear it! What a great sound. I thought my s4 sounded good with the FI system, this blows it away. I want to go drive it some more. I bet I’ll be driving a lot more getting used to the sound. Thanks JHM for another awesome product. Now for downpipes and a clutch…

Yeah the oem tune runs quite rich too. My mileage decreased considerably when I got my jhm exhaust on. Driving behaviour related though, not exhaust related.

I almost used a full tank in 24 hours just looking for excuses to go drive. I think I’ll head out again in a little bit. That sound is intoxicating!
