1/2 mile run, has anyone done this?

I’m participating in a 1/2 mile event and was curious if anyone else has done something like this.

My Avant is under the knife for a failed turbo so the B7 will be making an appearance. Any ideas where this should trap? Basic mods include JHM tune, Milltek DP’s and stasis exhaust.

I signed up b/c it’s two minutes from my Aunt’s mountain house so I’m not trying to set any records, just participate, likely get my ass handed to me and also see some other fine autos.

your S4, if stock, should trap about 80 MPH in the 1/8, 102 MPH in the 1/4 and (guess) around 150 MPH in the 1 mile. If it’s not stock and has JHM tune and good exhaust, it should do better, but you’re in Florida so will perform like a stock S4 in the heat. You mentioned mountains…if altitude is a factor, even worse.

So I’d guess 132 MPH at the 1/2 mile mark. Total guess though. Might be a bit high.

Thanks Bob! I knew you would have the breakdown with an estimate. We’ll see, should be fun to watch and run.

Bob?

Seinfeld…

ah. Gotya.

“my friend Bob Sakimano…”

Apparently that guy is famous. Or infamous… not sure which is more appropriate.

I did a few. They were mile events. Not too sure on how much different its going to be. When I did it. You were clocked both ways and then they took the average. It would be hard to say in the 1/2 mile what you would do. Anything over 130 is amazing considering the distance. Please check back in and let us know how you do.

The event was insane and one of the best events I’ve participated in. Many cars had in excess of 1000hp, Gt-r’s, twin fed Vipers, ZR-1’s, built Z06’s, Supra’s, you name it, it was there and nothing was stock.

Elevation was 2700 ft with temps in the low 80’s. I ran 5 or 6 times (could have ran many more times but took breaks to watch others) one from a dig and the others from a roll. The first two runs were from a roll vs a M3 w/ exhaust… Yup, didn’t go so well. From a dig vs. a Carrera S, clutch didn’t hold and ended up rolling out, tried to slip it into 2nd and still nothing. All other runs after the dig were from a roll to keep the clutch happy and allow me to drive home.

Needless to say the mph numbers were beyond bad, from a roll I couldn’t get past 117mph. Ugh!

I was very disappointed but enjoyed the event very much. The M3 on our runs ran 124/125, I think the Porsche was in this range as well.

One of the GT-R’s posted the top speed of 190mph. Viper, low 180’s, etc etc.

so hot and high…recipe for slow lol

pretty incredible those other cars were hitting 190mph in a half mile.

Just because…

That GTR was hauling ass. Lots and lots of ass…

Jupiter, when you say the runs were from a roll what were the starting speeds/gear for the runs?

I watched a few more videos and that looked super fun and I would love to do something like that. Some pretty interesting match-ups, like a guy in a Camero getting beat by what looked to be a blown 1980s Corolla GTS.

The same GT-R hit 190 shortly after that vid.

There was a thread recently about hoods and their stability for various cars. The twin turbo viper that ran in the low 180’s, it’s hood and entire right front quarter panel began to lift in a very scary way.

A little painters tape to seal the seams and they were back at it. A very cool, yet humbling event!

This was one of the hangers along the runway, pretty darn cool.

awesome !!

looks like my kinda fun, sometimes I think they hold this kind of event just outside miami.

I think you’re right, an old airport in Davie I believe.
